After a brain numbing first half of the quarter... I decided to try something new. Baking!

Well, ok, so I tried baking brownies once at the end of last quarter... and they ended up hard.... yeah...

I think it turned out pretty well since I've never worked with yeast that wasn't a lab strain on a petri dish and I don't even have a rolling pin! All by hand in one of the four bowls that exist down here at school. No kitchen aid mixer here, just a set of chopsticks and 10 fingers. LOL

It's a toasty 63 in here because we don't heat the place so did the boiling water in pot in oven thing and cultured the yeast for 40 minutes the first time and 100 minutes the second time to get it as big as what it looked like in the picture.

Well...

This was the bread going in

And then coming out!

And I don't think I messed it up because it was light and fluffy! (I halved the recipe)

Then, I even tried making cinnamon rolls ! (Halved the recipe again here.)

I actually think the proper term is to let the bread rise...

I say "cultured" the yeast...well... because that's what you'd call it if you were growing cell cultures in a research lab. LOL In this case the yeast was eating sugar, releasing waste into the dough, rather than growing in a broth in a shaker stinking up the hallway.
