My shipped roo :( **He didn't make it**

He is a silkie roo. Ill get a picture up. I just got back from the vet. He believes something ruptured above his eyes. He can see but he cant respond. He advised force feeding and TLC but if no improvement he advises culling due to lack of quality of life.

Wow, how strange...was he mailed from somewhere with a high altitude or in a plane? The pressure change may have ruptured a blood vessel perhaps. If you force feed him I found it helpful to slide him into a old long sleeve shirt sleeve and tie his legs (just enough to keep him from scratching and kicking) or have someone hold him for you, then using a large syringe with a tube 6inch long in place of the needle gently insert into crop depositing the food mash slowly. Be careful not to get any into the windpipe. Hope this helps, ill post a pick of my syringe for you to get an idea.I send my best wishes for yall both.

So sorry. Dang PO.

He was shipped by plane. The picture will be most helpfull. Right now I think I'm wearing more food then I got him to eat. I have my fingers crossed for a recovery. I really don't want to cull him! Hes been my baby since they day I bought him. As we speak hes walking backwards into my closet. Hes silly and purky considering his ordeal. I can handle a backward bird as long as I can rehabilitate him into eating and drinking. Sadly as of current he doesn't eat, drink or even scratch or crow.

I had this bookmarked. It has a little info on tube feeding, so I thought it might be useful.
Lots of love,

This is my first image post hope it works.
I used a turkey baster (im sure thats spelled incorrectly lol) with a piece of tube I got from the local hardware store

That's very helpful. Ill give it a shot. Hes not happy with me at all right now. I suppose I can't blame him tho. I wouldn't be too happy either. Are there any suggestions on indoor pens for a house chicken? Seems like he might bee my room mate for a while.

Hehe Im sure hes a little grumpy, but its all being done for the best. Umm for indoor pens I use a large pet porter with a heat lamp. Im currently houseing a young Roo in it for quarantine in my living room. Anything large enough for him to flap his wings comfortably is my rule of thumb. If I was in your shoes id shave a LITTLE tylenol into his water. Im not going to say everyone will agree with me on that but ive used it numerous times with no ill affects, it will help with pain if there is any and help prevent blood from clotting in his head which may be putting pressure on his lil chicken brain. Just an opinion. Hope the little bugger pulls out of it. Keep us posted on his progress plz
