My sister just revealed through this Instagram image that she's found a young pigeon, has contacted local authorities, but that we may need to take care of it:

- Any guesses on how old it is?
- What does it eat? I know about crop milk, but is it old enough for us to only feed it solid food?
- Any other general tips on caring for it?

EDIT: Looks now like they're going to put it back where they found it. Will update thread of more info comes along!

Update: They tried to put it back but it kept almost getting hit by cars, so we're taking care of it anyway! I've looked up ingredients to make fake crop milk on Wikipedia, off to buy that now.

Here is a link with numerous videos on this subject;

Is it old enough for us to only feed it solid food? Yes. I would supply it with a small container of seeds to let it practice foraging for it's self but continue to hand feed. This is what a good pigeon feed looks like (not available everywhere)

- Any other general tips on caring for it? It is still susceptible to cold try and keep it at least at room temperature and the food is best served warm until it's feathers are nearly all developed.

I have a baby mourning dove that I found 2 weeks ago and it loves cooked rice. you just open up the beak and place it in. It will swallow it. Mines doing great so far! its name is Doughnuts!!
