My so called silkie does have 4 toes

I checked today and yes she does have four toes... she is fuzzy, but has the spikkey wing feathers still. Her skin is not black black but close. So I am hoping she is a silkie! I don't care if she's pet quality~ just so she's a silkie!

Could just be poor breeding, but if it's a pet, what does it matter? I've had 4 toe silkies and 6+ toe silkies. Just don't breed them.

It's probably just a pet quality silkie. It's very common to have 4 toes and not all black skin if they're not from a good breeder

It IS a silkie,,,,,MYPETCHICKEN is a Hatchery so you probably arent going to get show quality stock there but I saw a pic of your bird and it is a silkie. The wing feathers do that,,,they are that way on my silkies..they are different than the rest of the bird feathers

MPC is a hatchery. Any place you order from online in mass is a hatchery that gets their stocks from production breeders who breed for production, not show quality traits.

If you want a show quality bird, you have to buy from a show quality breeder who has more than likely spent many years of tracking their stock and many many hundreds of dollars picking the best to breed from to get what they have. A show quality breeder chick isn't going to be 3 bucks each either, since they spent alot of time to pick the best and rid the rest.

I just got a reply from MPC when I told them about my "silkie" and also the Mille instead of an Antwerp.

She told me it is a silkie...
like you (everyone almost) you have to buy from a breeder for the "show" quality chick. But she said with out a doubt mine is a Silkie.

I've always had honest and Great communication with MPC so I'm not going to doubt here...

My other chickens have 3 toes... or maybe I'm not counting the toes right.
