My turkey almost killed my hen. Final update - She's gone.

I would see if yogurt would work. I know we humans aren't suppose to give them the flavored kind, but I have a sick hen right now and she LOVED the blueberry yogurt. Try that and see how it goes.

Also maybe try grapes? Our chickens LOVE grapes.

At this point I would be so desperate to try ANYTHING!!

I give my girls the flavored kind. The people who say that are concerned with too much sugar intake. But especially right now, she could use it. I would also try scrambled eggs and the grapes broken in halves or even thirds.

And lots of these.....

Sorry if this has already been suggested, I did not read all of the post.

Have you given her any aspirin for the pain? One gallon of water to one aspirin. She is probably very sore. She needs vitamins and electrolytes in her water. I am sure you have already been advised to scramble her some eggs. You can also make her some oatmeal with peanut for protein.

Sorry you were feeling like there was no help

Trying to get food down her and keep her hydrated... vitamins in her water or dribbled down her beak..... Do you know how to tube feed? If you can find a good sized syringe and a soft rubber tube you can try. I use the parrot handfeeding formula. Mix it up to grit or oatmeal consistency. You want the tube a little longer than the length from mouth to croup, but if you have a shorter piece then just go slower. Taking the tube aim for the immediate left or right side of the throat, in kind of and up and back/side motion... AVOID THE HOLE RIGHT BEHIND THE TONGUE !!!! You want to go over that and into the throat. Sometimes I hold the bottom beak and tongue with my fingers of one hand while having someone shine a light down the throat. Slowly push the tube down the throat, it should slide easily, if not start again, you will see the tube move under the skin. When you get to or as close to the crop push in the syringe slowly and watch the croup fill. It is better to have too little then too much in the croup, as it can back up the throat and aspirate the bird. When you have given enough quickly pull out the tube in one motion. Sorry you have to go through this. I hope she does not have internal injuries and will perk up for you.

For 2 weeks I force fed my sick hen (she had Marek's) and I would open her beak with my fingernail and then put the thick mush on the tip of her tongue and let her decide what to do with it. I gave her moistened crumbles with added honey, and yogurt. Sometimes I would also add babyfood sweet potatoes, applesauce, and bananas, avian vitamins, vitamin E and B, and then I would mix it all with pedialyte.

I would also give her little pieces (I mean LITTLE) of cooked egg and fruit. She would sometimes get those things stuck on her tongue and I was always worried that she would aspirate them. The mush was much easier to feed. I just made it thick enough that I could put it on my finger and kind of wipe it off on the side of her beak. I tried to always get it on top of her tongue, not under her tongue. It was painfully slow, but she was a very sick bird, I just didn't know how sick so I couldn't give up. Tube feeding would have been quicker, but it scared me since I had never seen it done.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Last night she actually ate a kernal of corn! This morning I gave some more. She is picking at it and ate two or three kernals and drank some of the water the corn came in. She is also starting to preen herself this morning and overall looks much brighter and happier. I think she has turned the corner and will make it now. Please forgive yesterday's panic.

Sjisty call as needed. That was an overly active male mating her I think.....Is there any wound site? Try to get her to stand, keep her warm, preening is a good thing. If there's awound with a gap, clean it and aply some antiobiotic and then if tear in her skin, you can put some hemmrhoid cream on it, helps it heal...

Praying for that hen.... Some toms are overly agressive and you may need a turkey apron .....Let me know how I can heolp.
