My turkey scalped my 11 week old chick!

It's been 11 days now, and Scully is healing beautifully! Although I noticed comb growth, I'm confused as I was told that GLW had a rose comb, but her comb is not like my others with rose comb...and I'm growing concerned that Scully may be a roo!!
Oh dear...hoping I'm wrong! "She is just super sweet!View attachment 1601575
Glad to hear that Scully is recovering nicely!
GLW should have a rose comb and I see a straight one!
Show a picture of the whole body, we may be able to help you determine if she is a he:)

A month later Scully is 15 weeks old and has made nearly a full recovery!! I'm surprised that there are even new feathers growing in on the scalp where it was torn off!!! Its a miracle! Scully is a bit fiesty but very people friendly, although I'm still concerned about the comb...it doesn't look like a GLW comb, I'm curious if anyone has any ideas on the gender and breed at this point! My other GLW have the short rose comb, Scully's very confusing to me!!

Yeahhh! I'm glad Scully healed up. I have no clue what sex but I would guess boy because it looks like there are saddle feathers.

Looks like Scully is doing great!
I am not a genetics expert by an means, but yes, I "think" you can have a straight comb in Wyandottes. Straight comb is recessive(?) so if not managed you could have a straight comb. I may have butchered that up LOL
Regardless, still looks like hatchery GLW - did s/he come from a hatchery or breeder?
Wyandottes, for me are hard to sex, so for the moment - not sure if Scully is a
boy or girl:confused:

Scully has healed beautifully, much better than expected! Scully and friends all came from a hatchery, K didn't know about the recessive comb thing! Very interesting! I guess I wait for the crow! I will be sure to post a follow up as s/he gets older! Thank you!!

Wow! @Angeltears247,
Excellent caretaking!
Please,
I hope you chime in every time there is a new thread about a chicken that’s been scalped. The before and after photos are nothing short of miraculous.

Scalping is such a shocking injury when you first see it.
And the stoicism of the poor bird covered in blood, standing there looking as it they’re missing half their head....it’s awful and quite overwhelming.
Hearing from one who has experienced it and to see such healing in just a month’s time will give hope to many people in the future.
