I had to put my turkeys in with my chicks this year. They are about 3 months old now and the chickens are pecking the wings of my turkeys. I had one die yesterday. Does anyone have any ideas? Would the chicks be too young to put in with my older birds?

Get some anti peck spray at a pet store. It`s in the birdie section. I have some that is clear and smells/tastes like sour apples. Great stuff. Should stop your problem, but may need to be reapplied in a few days........Pop

That is a very bad habit for chooks to be getting into at that age (potential bunch of cannibals) and not acceptable for surviving turks. If at all possible seperate. Then keep an eye out on the chooks starting in on one another.

Good luck!

Blukote colors the skin and is an anitseptic. I got the other hens to stop pecking my leghorn by using it. Beware it stains everything & if it gets on you you'll be blue too. It stays a while & she got to heal up w/no problem.

I did decide to use bluekote earlier since I had it on hand and won't be in town for a few days. It is really odd, they are only pecking at my big white turkeys, not my bourban reds or each other. I had trouble with some chickens doing this when I had leghorns but once they were gone I never had any trouble. Unfortunatly my turkey pen has lambs in it for a little bit longer. They can go in my garden in a few short weeks (turkeys not lambs lol). Grasshoppers here are already thick. I am sure the turkeys will do less damage than the hoppers. I have had thm eat a whole garden in a week or two.

is there a way you can put up a divider?
pecking is very bad habit, as Ivan posted, and can lead to worse injury and cannibalism.

I know how bad it can be. I like the divider idea. I'll get DH busy. I wish I would have had this site for some of the good advice I have gotten when I had the killer leghorns.
