Mysterious, painful leg

I'm fighting Marek's. I can only make mine as comfortable as possible until the disease takes its toll. It is very hard to deal with sometimes. I provide a chicken hospice service. I know that no matter what I do, they will die. It's just a matter of time.

Enough of that. I can't wait to hear about your hen. I hope all goes well and she is back to her old self in no time!!

Thank you guys! I am so antsy to get going, and so is Stephanie as she is making a lot of noise in her crate. I am tempted to let her out but I am fighting the temptation!

I am so sorry about your chickens, I cannot imagine how hard that must be. Is it affecting all of them? Good for you for providing them the love and care to live the rest of their lives in comfort/love. I hope it is as easy as it can be for you and the chickens. You are a very sweet chicken mom to them and they are lucky to have you :)

To date, I've lost 40+ chickens and have 4 in ChICU. None are at the hospice stage right now. I has an abcess that I am treating. Hopefully, he will recover :)

I hope so too!

She hasnt laid today yet and she didnt yesterday so i am expecting her to. Do you think she will on the way up or do they not lay when they are stressed out? Not sure if it is something they can control or not and I just want to make her comfortable!

I think she will wait until she is back home and comfy. I had a serama once that I moved to a larger cage. She didn't lay for 4 days. I put her back into her smaller cage and she layed 4 eggs in one day!!!! I felt so badly for her.

She was so tiny and droopy :( I felt so bad once I put her into her old lodging and she proceeded to lay 4 eggs. Poor little girl...she looked so happy afterwards :) I never moved her again!
Holy crap. ...that's a lot of eggs for a little Serama to hold in....lol

Oh wow! Maybe I will get three eggs tomorrow then ;)

I have been looking at this vets website and googled her and it seems like she enjoys seeing avian patients! It never mentioned chickens so I am sure its not a common patient of hers. But assuming she is very knowledgable about your more typical pet birds, would you assume she would be familiar with what is going on with her leg and the right course of treatment? I would understand if she isnt familiar with mareks or other chicken ailments but I am hoping something more "bird like" she can help me out!

I think, you should be fine for what you are taking her in for. She should be very knowledgable in the treatment of infections, wouldn't matter the species :)
