Mystery chick from Murray mcmurray

Mystery Chick is code for you got a cockerel...And as for the breed I doubt it would be a Bielefelder as they have been constantly sold out, I would be more willing to guess CLB also
No it's not... I have gotten mainly pullets for my free chicks. Free chicks are not sexed so I was lucky. Unless you have ordered hundreds of times from McMurray and gotten a free chick every time you are not going to be able to come up with accurate data. I have only gotten birds from them 10 times over the past 17 years, judging off of 10 chicks is not going to tell me if it is more common for them to be pullets or cockerels. Judging off of 100 chicks is not going to tell me either.

Really...excuse me for the comment! More often than not for me they have been cockerels, and lucky you were

It's the pale yellow color and irregular white dot on the head. As for MMM free chick, I am averaging 100% cockerels on those so I agree with Trux FWIW. If you got a pullet it was probably a sexing mistake ;) As for TSC, they get "straight run" chicks but if you know your stuff, depending on the breed, you can pick out the pullets and leave the cockerels for someone else. Just saying, they had about 20 "straight run" barred rocks but based on the diffuse/ muddy head spots of the chicks in the bin, people had already been in and bought 90% of the pullets. Some poor person is going to be awfully disappointed when they take home 6 or 12 roosters...

Well, the good thing is if it is a purebred cream leg bar, you should not have a problem re-homing it. They usually cost over $20 for a chick and if you raise it to be a little bit older and ready to mate I bet there are people that want one so that they can breed him with their brown egg layers and possibly get blue or green eggs!

I did that with SLW, bought 6 and ended up with 4 cockerels...no more TSC chicks for me unless they are sex linked
