When we purchased our chicks, we picked them ourselves and this little one came out of the same brooder as the three Easter Eggers, this was the fourth... or not? We noticed the chick had downy feathers which grew and became more pronounced.. also had a different shape and seemed to be smaller and slower to mature than the other three... my newbie guess is that Hobbit (they have furry feet) is a Brahma --- anyone have any thoughts on this?
Even though this is not what we purchased, I am thrilled... this has been exciting, having a mystery chick!

Here's Hobbit today - 5 weeks:

Thanks for all the responses, everyone! I noticed in another thread about Brahmas that you can tell if they are a pullet or cockerel by the way the feathers are... so I'll post some photos in that thread, too. For some reason we have all called Hobbit a "he" since the beginning, and then we all say that we don't know why we call that one a "he" so I'm curious to find out if "he" is a "she"!

Hi - So far "he" looks like a "she" to me. The dark Brahma males have a lot of solid black on their bodies. The hens have the silver heads and lacy-looking black feathers all over. She looks precious!
