I have 7 young Japanese quail in one of my coops. 5 of them are 4 weeks old today. Of those 5, 4 are males, as indicated by their breast colouring. The 54th one is a mix of Japanese and white Chinese quail, so I don't know what sex it is yet. Then I have a male of 5.4 weeks old and a 9 week old female. The female has been laying since she was 6 weeks old. I collected her egg yesterday, but today I found TWO eggs:hu I have checked the others again, and none of them have the spots on their breast like the female. Then there is the 4 week old Japanese/Chinese mix, which I can't sex by feather colour. But I have never heard of a quail laying at 4 weeks. The egg was a bit smaller then the egg my 9 week old lays, but it was a nice looking egg. The 9 week old started with a few dark looking eggs before she made nice ones.

So what could it be. Could my 9 week old have laid 2 eggs? Just when I thought I've seen it all:D

It could have laid 2 eggs, what is a chinese white quail?

In the US, I think you call them Texas A&M.

Oh, I just call them Whites or Jumbo whites.

The earliest I've had a coturnix lay eggs was at 4 weeks and 5 days old, so it is possible that your young one has started laying. Mine was also a white (english white).
