Hi! I just cracked my first duck egg of the spring and found the little white dot with a halo. I only have 5 hens and have seen no wild ducks about. How is this egg fertilized? Have I been misinformed about the dot? Thanks! I’m mystified...

How did u come to the conclusion of it beening fertile
I could be just missing out on key info or not?

OP observed a distortion of the germinal disc (white dot on every egg yolk). When fertilized, the dot takes on a distinct bullseye appearance. op described what they saw as a "halo" around the disc, which may or may not be the same, many discs have a halo appearance even when unfertilized

If you can post a photo of the inside of the egg that would help. If you already ate this one, take a picture of the next one. ;)

Thanks! I did eat it. I’ll check out another and post a pic. We had a drake last year who was taken by a fox or coyote. I was under the impression that the eggs with the bullseye/halo were fertilized and the ones with a less obvious dot/disc were not. Pictures to follow!

The disc had a circle around it. As I’ve been informed by another poster, it might not be a fertilized egg after all. Pics to follow!
