Oh, please don't be. It's 40 years old and came with the house. The freezer side no longer works but makes a great place for cool storage of bread and chips, flour, and anything else you don't want bugs to get into. An open bag of chips will stay fresh and crisp for a month - it is amazing. The compressor has burned out more than once, hence why the repairman has been here before, and isn't worth replacing again because the seals on the thing are broken and it would just burn out another compressor if replaced. The fridge side still works o.k. since I jerry-rigged some window seal stuff around the edges.

It takes up the space of a small room and someday we'll finally get around to pulling it out of the built-in area its in. In the meantime, we have to go outside to the freezer we keep in the laudry room to get ice or anything frozen.

The kitchen also has two Thermador ovens and a Jenn Air cooktop island - also 40 years old and barely working.

There's a story to this old home about how in the early 70s the original family sold it to two men who spent over a million dollars turning it into a french palace - spared no expense - turns out they had embezzeled the money so the house was taken from them and sold. Though people have owned it over the years, no one has lived here in over ten years. But, even after 40 years, everyone around here still talks about the open house the guys held when they had finished the work on the home. I can only imagine how grand it looked then and had state-of-the art kitchen appliances to boot.

Lots and lots of work cut out for us to do to even begin to recapture her grandeur.
