Myth busters- advice that keeps coming

Oh yeah..."don't count your chickens before they hatch " You better. Otherwise, be ready to build a new coop.
Or not. Just because you have a dozen eggs it does not mean you will have a dozen chicks. There is no guarantee all of them will hatch. That said, I once put a dozen eggs under a broody. I got a dozen chicks and ALL of them turned out to be roosters. Every single one. I couldn't believe it.

I actually meant that you should plan to house that many just in case because if you don't have room they will all hatch. Lol.
Sounds like your luck is worse than mine. I run about 2/3 male. My broodies just hatched 3 this week so I have fingers crosses for 3 pullets.

- ‘you need to heat your coop in the winter in the Great Lakes region’ — nope! My hens survived the polar vortex without concern.

-‘this breed of rooster is docil, so he will be nice’

-‘lighting the coop in winter is healthier’

- ‘they aren’t friendly like mammals and will never sit in your lap for pets’
I survived the Polar vortex too! 40 below zero! Good to know your hens did well.
