N.E. Chickenstock 2011!!!!!! Who's up for it??

My humidity exploded to 82% and their popping out like pop-corn!!!! The only one I know I lost for sure is a BCM. I heard they are difficult to hatch, although I could be wrong.

LMP, mine are popping out all over! This batch was 19 BCMs from Chickenstock and 10 of my own blue egg EE/ Barney eggs. The BCMs ( from CottageGarden and AHappyChick) are still hatching and pipping. I am still waiting for the darkest eggs to pip, tho.
John is having a blast watching them: checking them out every 5 minutes.
Had to laugh: even my daughter's hubby wanted to know when those red eggs were hatching. He wants some. SHE wants bantam marans. Do they exist?

Well Im up to 14 and a pip! I had 30 or so i had won in the egg raffle, one batch wasnt fertile, and had a handful that didnt develop...but we have LOTS of chicks!
I blame this all on Diana for winning the bator! Had she not had won that I wouldnt have entered the raffle, But she did and I did, and now shes happily being my egg hatching queen!

on another note, we lost two of the chicks we got from chickenstock, one just wasnt thriving, and the other (lil polish) were not sure what happened.

But it is what it is, and the rest are doing well...and I think mostly roos!

OH well! We will wait to see who crows!
Lav silkies doing great and blending with the big girls, looks like 2 boys 1 girl
EE from raffle also doing great...verdict is still out on this one!
Red Cochin, fiesty lil bugger, and looking very rooish!
and the Penciled Silkies, SO darn sweet and loveable, verdict is still out on them as well!
Cant wait for next year!!

Final count: 10 Marans out of 19 eggs total from Cottage Garden and AHappy Chick I think that's a good outcome for our first marans attempt.
Question: how do you folks keep track of which chick comes from which egg as they hatch and wander all over the bator? I separated the two batches of eggs with the blue ones but I may as well not have bothered!
I also set 10 of my BarneyEEs with them and got 7 of his ( Nature deplores empty incubator space). Now I have to sit and figure out which are EEs and which are marans. Barney is a black (tailed) Aurcauna from hinkjc breeding out of a blue egg. The eggs were our bluest ones from the hatchery EEs and I think they are from the blackest hens. So.... we have black chicks and more black chicks. The EEs are for sale cheap. My daughter wants me to have a hatch in early August when she and the family are visiting and I don't need this many chicks!

I've seen people set up these grid things to keep the chicks seperate? Heck, I'm lucky if I can hatch a thing, let alone keep track of what egg came from what hen, and which chick is which!

I now have a zillion broodies, I locked up one of them, and I'm going to lock up one of the other ones tomorrow. The locked up ones seem to be keeping their eggs under them better. And of course, the other hens can't keep adding to their egg count! I have to clean out one of the drawers and check those eggs, the Silkie in that one must have two dozen eggs in it!

Note, never incubate chickens that all look the same!

For me the polish are obvious, as are the cochin (only feathered leg variety) the Olive egg birds also look similar, the OE F2 crossbacks are all that's left making it easy. But then next weekend are all of Chickie Mama's and Anne's DUCKLINGS! I'm SO excited!!! and I have 20/20 with development and movement!!!!! Holy chick overload batman!

Final count??

OK girls here it is...

4/4 silver lace polish from Patty hatched
0/3 BCM from cottage garden.
2/2 OE sex linked f2 crossbacks olive eggs from cottage garden
4/6 giant cochins, blue and splash from cottage garden
5/6 oe mixes from SashasMom??
3/24 cotournix survived. 1 poor little booner died at 2 days old. Atleast I THINK those numbers are right...

20/20 Cayuga and White crested duck eggs in the bator!!! (10 of each!)

Hey everyone.

I got a note from Time that said the article would be in July 9th.

I ended up with a couple of bantam roos from chickenstock that I can't keep. One is a old english bantam who is black and the other is a modern game bantam that is silver and white. Send me a note if you want them.

Thanks!
