She's probably going off of attitude at this point. Plus the boys tend to have thicker legs.

What I am looking at in my chicks is behavior, combs and color. It is waaaaaaaaaaay to early for saddle feathers those won't show for months. This early combs can be tricky, you can't be 100% off combs alone especially since I have a mixture of comb types. Careful watching of behavior, not just chest bumping b/c they all do that, but watching how they respond to unexpected noise or things like that, do they tend to stand at attention, or continue w/ what they were doing or hug the ground closer, not just one time, but consistently. And color/pattern, this is especially telling after you have hatched several chicks in your own lines, if you pay attention you can start to see patterns of what kind of colors/patterns in the down made into boys in the past.
Leg size especially at the really young ages is hard for me. They have to be about 3-4 weeks generally for me to see that and then they have to be in a group where I can compare. She's probably going off of attitude at this point. Plus the boys tend to have thicker legs.
Some of you know, I started with Naked Necks for the purpose of taking them as 'far and away' from ASOP as possible. Now I'm trying to take the same line of birds back toward standard of perfection.
Except, that (single comb brown egg layers) just by itself is kind of boring to me : ) So I'm keeping frizzle going. These are a week old-ish.
Black and splash. They should be contenders : )
