Naked Neck/Turken Thread

It's always that 1st week of life where chicks are the hardest to take care of.. Noticed with broody hens almost none of there chicks die, I love the natural breeding lifecycle but sadly it's only seasonal and depends on the hen.. I am getting chicks mailed hoping to come in 2 weeks. Last year I got chicks from same source and no chicks died at, they lived till I picked out the birds I wanted to keep and wanted to kill or the freezer.

Hoping in the next few weeks I get the same results as last year.

At some point soon, I want to use brood hens, exclusively.

Good luck with your chicks!

I seldom have chicks die once they survive hatch (my incubator shrink wraps bad) I have gotten very good at assisting hatching w/ shrink wraps and seldom lose them that way either. Losing that one was such a surprise b/c there was no sign it was in trouble at all. If it was a human baby it would be like a SIDS death, healthy one minute dead the next.

This is Ozzie (Osma)... she was given to me by a local breeder when she was a week old. Said no one would want her (the breeder thought it was a roo). She has the loveliest temperament, and I look forward to som interesting offspring next spring.

PS: Sorry there is no pic uploaded. I must post more before I can upload photos. She is quite striking though. Looks like she is a Plymouth rock cross. Beautiful black and white stripes on her feathers.

Your picture did not show through. I believe you have to get the 6 posts before it lets you post pics. It is a spam guard.

Lily. :) We have a speckled one by the name of "Tiger" , but I didn't have time to get a picture of her. Now that they are in a bigger area, maybe I can when I go home!!
