X2!Wow, super cute chicks! On my first hatch with purchased eggs the first one to hatch was a Turken. I was shocked and wondering if they would all be Turkens, but he was the only one. We are also keeping ours for breeding. He has a pea comb and his dad is supposed to be a Marans, so he's an olive. He's also gigantic already (18 weeks old). I also like his temperament, so it is win-win-win.![]()

There are so many awesome looking Turkens here! I have to admit, the first time I saw one, I thought it was pretty ugly, then I hatched a couple in my last hatch and I am quite smitten. So smitten that one is definitely a boy so in order to keep him he's going to have his own little coop with a couple girls to call his own...lol.
Actually I had 16 eggs go into lockdown and after 10 normally feathered chicks we had our first turken hatch, then two more. (One died a little over a week old. She had extreme pasty butt and I could not get it to clear up. She was also an assisted hatch as she was "shrink wrapped".) 3 eggs did not hatch and had died day 20/21. Out of the three that did not hatch 2 more were turkens. Which makes me ask: Do turkens have a higher mortality rate at hatch? (Only lost one non turken.) And is it common for them to take longer to hatch?
That's just brilliant!Mine are 4 weeks now and feathering beautifully. The first one is my roo, David. My 6 year old son named him. When I called him to ome look at the naked neck that had just hatched he took one look at it and said, "Yup, it is a naked neck. We should call him David." It took a few minutes for me to get the orrelation between "naked" and "David" He finally sighed and said, "You know the naked statue, his name is David." lol So now we have a turken named after Michaelangelo's statue of David. This is him:
LOL thanks!!Aw thanks!Love your location, made me laugh....
Ohhh...
Ty.Welcome! They don't take longer to hatch.. as for mortality, have read research that claimed a slight degree of mortality.. by general comments, they seem very fertile and hatch well, shrug...
I do know for sure once they hatch normally, they are extremely hardy. They are able to hatch and grow outside under hens during our so. Calif winters with temps in 40-60 daytimes and night times 35-40ish. As long as they stay dry they do fine.

The second is Chaos. My son named him/her too. I believe the name is from a Skylander bad guy....lol Hoping it's a girl so we can keep it, but not sure as it's an EE cross (hatched from a green egg) so it's possible it'll spout a pea comb later. Keeping fingers crossed though.
