Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I'm the proud new mom of sextuplets! I'm guessing their birthday was around St. Patrick's day so they will have Irish names but until I know them a little more and can tell the same colored ones apart better I'm not going to name them. Only one has a completely naked neck, I picked the least feathered necked ones I could find. The lady at the feed store thought I was a bit crazy for looking so closely at every one they had but she also said she wished more people were as excited about them as I was. I have no idea what colors they'll be other than the black ones of course but I don't care, I'm just so happy and also nervous since they are so tiny and fragile!

So cute! Congratulations and welcome to the club! Mine will be 9 weeks old tomorrow and I can honestly say that, so far, this is my absolute favorite breed. They are so friendly and affectionate....just amazing birds. One of my cockerels has become the predominant lap chicken. A cockerel!!!! I honestly think that if I could only have one breed this would be it. Enjoy!

! If all goes as well as I'm thinking/hoping, then this will be my only breed, I'm really not interested in any other chickens unless I come across a chicken in need of a good home AKA a "rescue" chicken like mine so far have been lol!

Have you tried the Ga thread to find DDD ?My base is blue and silver, Bearded Polish and Silkie and of course NN. Working to rid my flock of five toes and straight comb and/or wattles. The process is slow in my flock but then I'm too busy and have many projects to complete.

Her profile says last sign in was back in 8/31/14.. so I assume she hasn't been back since.

Oh straight comb won't be so easy to rid of from your project.. if you're determined, one way is to pair-breed with a single combed bird, if any single comb chick pop up, that bird is a guilty one.

Extra toe is a little easier to detect, be sure to look at the rear toe, it needs to be totally normal, no 'crabbing'(two toenails on one toe). Pretty much the only way to totally rid of wattles is to use pea comb or beard as both reduce wattle size a goodly bit.

Good luck!

You did it! And that's a most proper and cute brooder for the little cuties.

Is this a Cockerel?
Looks rather like one to me. I know we had one pull that on us.. Bought 5 pullets. One had tree trunk legs, and his comb got really big, and his wattles. the last thing we noticed was he got pointy saddle feathers (the others had plucked his tail or else we would have seen the sickles) And then 3 days later he started crowing. He looks like our pretty girl Tigger who got some skin infection on her neck and died. :(

on antoher note: We had a scare with our Oldest turken this winter, but she pulled through. TWICE. Thank the lord above. We have one old and one young turken. Planning on Breeding the young turken with our Easter Egger, Rooster Cogburn, along with a whole bunch of other girls.... Eggs going in the bator on Easter. Hopefully. Hopefully we get some turken babies Hatched!! I love the goofy things.
