Had a broody on eggs.. due date tomorrow.... just now checked on her... eggs completely gone... possum tracks outside their pen.... sigh......

I'm surprised, this pen is a chain link dog run with chicken wire attached to it from top to bottom with the flare out under ground.

a tad annoyed....

But not covered? Those ugly BAS####s can climb...they are a bit ungainly but they can really climb, generally using the corners of a fence if there is one but they can go right up the side too.

Sorry to hear about this. Those things are a scourge,

my broody yesterday broke a NN's egg when returned to the nest - jumped on it. there was blood in it I guess it was going to hatch. she ate some before I took it from her so I didn't see well what was in it. it was my big fat girl's egg! 2 of hers and 1 of another NN eggs left. I hope she will not brake them.

KEV saddened to hear about your predator. I am always battling neighbor hood cats. Plan on setting the trap tonight. In your case you need a gun.

On a different note, spent some time observing my flock yesterday, so I want to show off.
BLR Wyandotte/NN (Nava)
Size contrast Big Blue Bertha with Miss Rosa and last chick of the season, dark skinned.
Need a name for my rooster here with his favorite hen
Favorite hen, crested EE of unknown parentage maybe d' uccle good layer of blue eggs
Looking forward to seeing her eggs !

Do not like floppy combs prefer a nice tight pea or rose

And vanilla perfect except for the comb. At least her wattles are nice and small. And she is a real good layer of blue eggs with nice thick shell.

I love your birds. They are so unique! I also don't like big floppy combs. I also like that rooster! Does he have silkie feathers? Are he and the girl with black/light brown fm girl the ones you posted few weeks ago?

"Tad annoyed" wouldn't begin to cover it for me. You'd probably hear me cursing all the way at your house. I'm so sorry this happened, and especially so close to hatch date. That's like pouring salt on an open wound.
