Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I got my NN because they could handle the TX heat. We have more humidity than AZ, but as long as I have provided shade and water for cooling they do fine. I have wading pools (2'x3x8" plastic storage containers) with pieces of concrete that I fill with about 2" of water. They drink it and stand on the rocks or in the water. I pour the poopy water after diluting it on my plants. When we get over 100 on a daily basis, I will take out frozen gallon jugs of water and place it in the shade then dampen the ground. They will lay by the ice jugs during the peak of the heat. I really love how sturdy the NN are.
Here are two of my girls, they all look alike.

115-120 summers here. I'm guessing they named this place Sun City for that reason! They do great. I didn't have to do anything special for those on the hotter days, while some other breeds(especially the "meaty" or highly feathered breeds) needed to be in a more shaded, moistened/cooled down areas or they'd start getting heat stroke.

Lighter breeds such as leghorns can handle the heat Also many bantams... however some silkies, especially the big fuzzy 'show stock' can suffer and need some cooling down.

Cuckoo x cuckoo usually will throw almost all cuckoos. If the roo is pure for the barring then all chicks will be barred. If the rooster is not pure for barring, then half of the daughters will not be barred...

Are those light ones white or wheaten? If you're getting wheaten chicks, you could get crele- looking birds as creles are the same barring over a red duckwing. If they're white and your birds have yellow skin, could easily create a line of yellow legged whites out of these chicks.

As for mullets(GREAT name!) yes have seen them.. no idea what causes them.. as far as I can remember, most of them were on birds with pea or rose combs. Can't tell if that's linked or just coincidence... what type comb do your mullet chicks have?

I Have two naked neck silkie roos that are Free to a good home. they are 9 mos. old and have been inseparable since birth. I will deliver them to any one in central cal. area to anyone who is willing to provide them with a good home. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL . I could try to get my bro to help me down load pixs if anyone is interested. PEARL is all white and PRIMO is multi colored mottled brown with grey undercoat and black head feathers with a greenish black tail feathers. If any one knows anyone who is interested in breeding for the naked neck gene. it runs strong in my flock.

This is my showgirl (buff) pullet she can see just as well as a reg. Silkie does

Which means you can't see her eyes either.
She has the nice blue skin like the silkies do even the "blue" earlopes
will try and post closer pics later

I actually bought my NN at Attwoods last fall when they had chicks. Only one chick had green legs, so she was called Annie Green Legs, just as the one black chick was Annie Black. When they were little they all were different enough to get names that made sense, but now no one looks like Annie Yellow Cap or Annie Dot anymore, so they are mostly just Annie. I name the look-a-like breeds all the same name, the Speckled Sussex are named Golda/Goldie. It is easier I guess. Oh and the roo is Oakley.
Some time in the future I will order my NN from S&P Poultry, since I want to do a meat bird project with the NN. They sell their NN as meat birds and I have read they are larger like the old time NN. At this point I have ruled out the Delaware cross, the Dels eat altogether too much - like in "Stand still! I want to eat your toes." They eat almost twice my other coops, I keep three small flocks in their own coop. All my birds are LF so I think the Dels are just pigs. I am looking for pics of other Brahma/NN crosses, pgpoultry's look nice and burley where as Gritty's little girl is just that, petite like my NN hens.

The pretty roo Maralpz2006 looks lovely. DO post pics of his chicks.

greenSearcher, my NN X Brahmas are enormous for their 8 and a bit weeks. Yesterday I mistook the black one for one of my Naked Neck hens. I realised he was just slightly smaller, but already had a bigger head and neck, and much bigger legs and feet than the NNs. One of the 'blue' chicks is fairly definitely a pullet and she is slightly smaller....but still very big for her age.

I'm sure there must be others with NN X Brahma out there....pics. PLEASE.

Just to say mine were crosses between pure black NN hens with no bow tie and a Blue Partridge Brahma roo. rather big with odd green eyes.

My Red Pyle Brahma boy would be very happy to produce some more offspring as would Mort my pure bred black NN without a bow tie. Mort's favourite hens are a Gold Brahma and a WarrenXRed Pyle Brahma cross with green eyes and creamy coloured feathers. So...should I go there?

Please post more pics. of the real deal and the definite oddities.....I love 'em
