Naked Neck/Turken Thread

In Europe we have the same breeds and colors as you in US but the standard is a bit different.
I think that blue laced red wyandottes are not recognized yet, am I right?!? I said that because these teo are similar, not the same but very close and my has single comb.

Roosters, hm. I don't know what to say about them. They don't chase each other anymore but for some reason little rooster is scared to death and when my rooster gets near him he gets panic attack.

I let them out of the run yesterday before dark and just a few of them went outside. They don't go far from the coop and just 7 girls were out. I guess it was because I let them just a bit too late. Today I will let them out around 10 am. Oh and yes, they came to coop all by themselves.

Glad to hear that your new birds and the old flock are starting to get along.
The young cockerel is still frightened because he recognizes the dominance if the elder. This is ore tut normal. As the young one matures he may challenge the older one again, not always the case but it does happen.

We already decided to cull him. We don't like him. He is small and has feathers on his legs. We will probably do it this week. We will also cull some hens, but not yet, we want to observe them a bit and then take a decisions on who is going to stay. ( we already decided on few of them)

Yes, I think we have a solution, my caponizing mentor really wants to have a flock of naked chickens since her husband is allergic. I gave her a boy from an earlier hatch this year, but this fall he choked and died on a large grasshopper, so she is going to give Houdini a group of ladies for himself and hope to hatch chicks this spring. These first ones will just be carriers (at least some) it will take another mating w/ grown carriers for her to hatch out nakeds.

Mikado things have worked out.

Hey there NN people. Anybody know if anyone is working on Rose combed Naked Necks? The image came to mind earlier today and I thought "whoa, that would be neat." Just curious if anyone has attempted this as of yet.

There may be done actually working on them. I've produced a few but not actually a project.

I decided that I'm not that big a fan of the rose comb on NN's. I do like the pea comb in them and have a few with the pea comb. An offshoot of my Green Egger Naked Neck Project.

I can't blame you. I have to imagine a rose comb on a NN would be ugly as sin. I guess that's why I like the idea of it so much, I love me some ugly birds.

Pea comb NNs! I'd love to see some pictures of those.

I don't think they're really ugly, to me they just don't fit the ideal.

Here's a recent picture if a up and coming cockerel:

One of my Nn phenotype chicks I got from Ideal has a rose comb. He's also the largest cockerel by far and is "Head Boy" in the NN group. He has always been very, well, intimidating looking - I think the rose comb has a lot to do with it. Original name was Bane/Mr. Smith (from the Matrix). New name (that suits his intense stare even better) is Severus Snape. (Oldest head cockerel in the yard is Dumbledore, so that tracks...) He's got a big mouth on him, crow-wise - he has 5:30am "conversations" with Dumbledore at full volume...

I had not intended to have/work on rose combed NNs, but it looks like I will certainly have that feature in my flock, as my breeding decisions are primarily made based on size and body type (meat flock), vs. comb, and he will be one of my breeders.

Here he is with Tank, another big boy:

And here with Puppy, one of the pullets:

I should get a "head on" shot of him, to show his intimidating stare. He outstares me easily...

Edit to add: He's 14.5 weeks here.

That is on my list for early spring. Well, actually not rose comb but rather pea and cushion combs.
