Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Ok I can't work out how to use the multiple quote do-da, but so many thanks for all this information on fibro and what barring and id does to it, so very interesting. I'm intrigued that some muscles and organs would be darker than others, and that there is a patchy or almost ombre effect! Looking forward to learning more. I'd like to have an all fibro flock with rose combs some day.

And @Kev , thank you for your sympathy for the cockerel. Melody was a birthday present from one of our workers, and I love the way he looks, plus in some respects he's a good boy. But not enough. Though it means I have the fun of choosing his successor.

Love the colour of those marans eggs Ant Farm, and Puppy could never be called anything else with that quizzical adoring look in her eyes.

Would love to get some blue NNs, but I think I'm about as far away as @Phill98 from them, luckily I get to live vicariously through you all

glad your day got capped off with a bundle of Puppy love.

you have a nice lot, if I may say so! also, congrats on good marans stock- there are nice eggs. I kinda miss the dark eggs but am with you on the feather leg issue, oh well... guess will just have to wait until someone makes dark egger clean legged NN lol

it can be easy to get clean legged NN dark egger. you just need english marans, they are clean legged.

I usually only candle at day 10, but since I over stuffed the bator and knew so many were going to be infertile I went ahead and candled early. I took out 16 that left 21, of the 21 there are still about 4 I think iffy's.

surprisingly those were one of the worst as for heat tolerance. Both roosters and cockerels would die in the summer.. every single one of them. Had to really hurry with breeding these, breed cockerels(they were ok with the heat as chicks) to hens before the next summer came. but when the older hens showed heat intolerance, decided to just call it quits on this breed. Their eggs are not really dark, the good ones lay eggs like the red terra cotta pots.. chocolate speckles and spots seemed to be a trait also. Rather liked those eggs.

The really dark eggs haven't been high on my chicken bucket list, probably mostly b/c of the hairy legs thing

I only have one green egg layer, she is a genetic layover from my original chickens who all perished in my chickeggedon. So was surprised by it showing up 2 gens later. I would really like more, especially since they are jumbo, but so far none have hatched.
