I did a Google search with "cogote pelado" and found these pix on Flickr.

I have even found a site for you to purchase some chix.

http://www.gallinaspuras.com.ar/de_madagascar.htm

I have heard that NNs originally came from Madagascar. This might be your chance
to get some of the original birds. Do you have any information regarding the year
when NNs first came to Argentina?

Just to give you some motivation to get your flock here is a picture of one my roosters.

He is about 75cm tall. All NNs seem to be the same no matter what part of the globe they were raised.

Jelly,
Seems you've been doing some homework... lol
That's a very nice Roo! I'm quite motivated already!!! But anything helps!!

I've been googling for NNs in spanish, english and french for months and never came up to those links you found!!!
Those NNs from Madagascar that you pasted the link, here, at shows they call them Malgaches, they are some kind of mix of a Shamo or Malay with NN, the breed comes from Madagascar, I hope!, if not, I have no idea where they come from because as far as I'm concerned, nobody has imported anything from Madagascar.
So, as they are in some way, game birds, therefore aggressive, thats why I have no interest in buying some, besides, the pice is crazy! About 120 dollars (1us$= 4,20 pesos) so its quite expensive.
Which would be a normal price for a NN there?

I have no idea the year the first NNs where brought to Argentina, but I can tell you that my grandma, in the farm where she was born, had some NNs, and she was born in 1916.
The only thing about NNs here is that there are no pure breed breeders, all NNs you can find here are crossed to anything because everybody who has at least 2 acres has a bunch of chickens, and there are always some NNs, and as they are free range, they breed to any other chicken from the flock, so they have the NN, but they are not pure breed NNs.
There is only one guy who has a trio of NN bantams, to whom I have already asked to sell me come chicks as soon as he hatches some, and that should by mid september

My red pullet looked just like your chipmunk striped chick....so, my guess would be red

The others? I have no idea..

Down color in chicks is often, though not always, breed specific.

For example,
BBR (wheaten) Cubalayas have white down: no stripping (if stripping occurs it shows non-Cubalaya blood)
Red Pyle Cubalayas have white down
Black Cubalayas have black down
Blue Cubalayas have smut or ash colored down
Brown Red Cubalayas have black down with a reddish hue on the head

Interesting:
White Cubalayas have white down; unless they come from me, I added blue to them a few generations ago: they now have smut down

Nice looking chix!
If I was a betting man, which I am not, I will say buff/brown. They certainly won't
be black! From what hatchery did they come? One question. Where is Jackson County?
Your profile doesn't tell us what state. There is a Jackson County in Texas, but we don't
squeal in Texas. We say "Yeee Ha"

Whoop, Jackson County, Georgia, Jelly!

They're from ChickensForBackyards.com, one of the only places I could find to ship such a small number... funnily enough, they're from Texas!

"Squee" is more... well, more of a general internet term, I suppose... I spend a lot of time on the internet

Leadwolf and Saladin, I can't wait to see what they look like grown up! Red would be nice, for sure... Not enough of it in my flock!

Wow, 1916. I believe that is before the NN breed was introduced in the US. I will have to do some research and confirm.
There are several US hatcheries that sell pullet chix for $2.75 each. Cockerels for $1.50. These prices do not include shipping
that could be $20. You can get better pricing with larger quantities, but the basic price range is low.

US hatcheries do not sell pure breed NNs either. You can read my previous post.

I have been told the frizzy characteristics came from the rooster, and I have to agree.
Upon further inspection he has some pretty weird toes. He looks like NN. I will send a picture
with my next post. He is from the barrio southside San Antonio, Texas.

Thanks for the geography update. I feel much better now. I thought you might live in Jackson County, Mississippi. HA!
I once had a "vacation" at Ft. Benning. I never heard anybody say "Squee" when I was there. Just "drop and do me 50."
Best of luck with your chix. Please post photos when they get bigger. GO DAWGS!
