Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Khan really was the perfect name for that boy. The look in his eye...whoa! Beautiful bird, but whoa!

Look at that comb!! He looks amazeballs!!!! :love

Thanks! I think he's fantastic! I think he gets that "stink eye" thing from his father, Severus Snape (who was named because of his own intimidating look). Remember, Khan has had "the look" down since he was an itty bitty thing. "...From hell's heart, I spit at thee..." :lau

He's 19 weeks old as of yesterday, and has already assumed proper flock leadership with the eight girls he's with (three sisters, one half sister, and four unrelated olive eggers). With the exception of the occasional unwanted advance, he's pretty well behaved for a cockerel, and the pullets all love him and follow him. I thought I would have to separate him for a while, but it's such a relief to see that I don't. I had had a good feel about him, and I think I was right. Pullets are squatting for him already, gotta get some nest boxes and oyster shell in there (they grow up so fast!!!!). They are a really friendly group - that's always so gratifying. They've never had a treat from me in their lives, they just come running because they like being near me. :love

And here's another one of Puppy and Snape's babies, in with Khan. She's a total sweetheart - and I love the way her feathers look!!! The lacing around the edges is deep black, sharp and has a greenish blue tint in the sun. She doesn't have a name yet - I tend to let the names "come to me". We'll see what she ends up being called. (Probably "Pretty Feathers".)

Kirk (the keeper boy form the Tank x GNH hatch) is also wonderful, and lots like his Daddy. I need to get some pics...

So, earlier this week I started letting out the kids I got from Cynthia to hang out with the main flock. I know it seems early, but the grow out they're in is literally inside the main pen, so they've all been socializing through the fence for a few weeks, and my flock is fairly peaceful. They are LOVING all the freedom! :wee I actually had to coax them back in last night as they stayed out scratching dirt well past Great Horned Owl time.
Those are my 14 week old Australorp cockerels in the bachlor pad pen behind them.

The one that we thought in the beginning might be an aloha because of the speckles.. she's pretty much lost all those speckles, there's just a hint of them left. But she's gotten so beautiful!

That white was really clean bleach white until about two days ago when she figured out how awesome dustbaths are...

Pretty, I have a girl that looks similar to the last one.

And .. Fire Ant, That last one is beautiful. I have one with similar colors to that one too. Only, for the longest time, I just knew it was a girl. Now..oh my, not so sure, the comb is thicker, and there are large wattles going on. Will have to post photos of her because I am really surprised at the change all of a sudden. Yours has a different type of comb than the one I am talking about. I'm also now seeing that tell tell sigh of red feathering coming in up above the top of the wings on the back.

if you post pics we shall try to guess.

in my case colour never mattered. I have had female NNs with huge combs and wattles as well.

how old is your chicken?

I love these 2. I thought for sure the golden one was a girl for the longest time..but thinking..not now. My fav... the buff and white. :)
