Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Some updated photos of my NNs.
All are 5.5 months old.

My cockerel Angus- he has blue/slate legs. All of his down is also blue.

Agatha- she just laid her first egg a few days ago! It’s a pink color. Unfortunately I discovered a horrible injury on her abdomen. It looks like she’s going to recover but she hasn’t laid an egg since that first one.

Thank you! I think they’re pretty special.
I’m excited to see what kind of chick I get from them someday.
I know that Angus and Emily don’t have the small bow tie on them so if I get chicks from Angus and a fully feathered hen they probably won’t be NNs.
But Agatha has a nice small bow tie and I think black is dominant so more black babies, I guess?
I have 11 female chicks I got so Angus has more girls.
They’re 6 & 7 weeks old.
3 Speckled Sussex
2 Australorp
2 Partridge Rocks
2 Silver Penciled Rocks
2 EE

And there’s a third Australorp that has turned out to be a cockerel. :hmm
We’ll see how that goes.
There might be enough girls for both of them.

@ChooksNQuilts Thank's for your update on them! I hope that whatever was wrong with Agatha get's better for you.
Me too!
I was really upset to discover a wound like that.
It’s about 3 inches in diameter!
We think either my dog bit her or she tore herself on some sharp chicken wire.
It was a few days old before I even knew she was injured and could start treating it.
She has been separated from the others, mainly so that Angus doesn’t breed her until she’s healed.
One good thing is that because of where the wound is located the other birds don’t see it and wouldn’t peck at it.
Also, flies don’t seem to be bothering it.
I’m glad she’s a NN because there’s a lot less feathers down there to get in the way of the injury.
I’ve been spraying it with Veterycin and it looks like it’s starting to heal.
Agatha is eating, drinking and preening so I’m very optimistic at this point.
It did scare the crud out of me at first though.

I can imagine how you felt. Yes, it is a good thing that the NN's have less feathering. It make's it easier not only for the culling, but to be able to see if something is wrong.

Any new NN chick's planned for this month? How is everyone's flock's doing?
I set eggs a few days ago from the splash NN with the Bresse hens, and Remmington with the Jersey Giants and BCM's. And a few randoms from the "general population" flock. Due to hatch around the 24-25 I think. I also splurged and ordered some Buckeye chicks from Hoover hatchery for trying out and possibly crossing into my NN line if I like them..

It look's like you are planning a good colorful hatch again! Good luck!
