Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Not the best pictures because this brooder is hard to take pictures in... 3 weeks old and their first night in the outside brooder. This is the first batch to go outside this fall and need the heat lamp on. The Previous batch 3 weeks ago didn't need it at first because it was still very warm outside.

1. Will her neck get sunburnt? Im in FL so not worried about the cold so much but the sun can be intense. I give my chickens shade but am wondering if th NN breed gets neck burns lol.

Nope

2. Will other chickens peck her? Im thinking maybe if its female, I should keep her with my Silkies. They are more docile.

They might, just like any other chicken but I would not put special worry towards the Naked Neck that you do not already put towards any other chicken

3. Will her neck skin become less translucent? Right now, I can see veins on her neck and crop. It seems like that would encourage other chicks to peck her there. Will they be less visible as she gets older? Right now they are under a red light but that will be gone pretty soon.

Eventually the necks become very red like comb and waddle color red. Not sure if this is true with all Naked Necks but its been true with mine.

4. Are the NNs all this sweet and snuggly?
Nope, on rare occasions one turns out really ugly as a chick

Okay I got some pics of my NN baby. I also have some questions since I've never had this breed lol.

I'm over here in the hot summer's desert in Arizona. I'm pretty sure that the sun is more intense here. Even if the neck's get red, that is normal and pretty much like us human's get sun tans. They can get along with other chicken breed's, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. They are curious as a breed, and love the person who bring's them food.

Bluebaby, I lived in Phx and Lake Havasu City and yes, the sun is way worse there, than here lol because we have humidity to soften the blow (sun's intensity) lol.

Lol@ the ugly chicks..Im sure they are cute in their own ways. This one runs up to me to snuggle before all the other chicks do.

Im glad they can do okay with other breeds :)

I am a red head who burns over rumors that the sun might be out... yes humidity lessens the intensity as I found out after one day out in the sun in San Diego when I first got out to my fleet. I remember being in the Philippines for a short while and that they had no sun screen there (The Natives didn't deal with sunburn so it didn't exist there) I was all nervous that I would get burnt but never once did I get a sunburn there... although it was more than just Humidity that helped out, Air Pollution is so bad there it prevents sunburns lol.

I tend to like the ugly chickens more. I notice them first and then I pick up on their personalities sooner and get attached to them easier than the chickens who have nice pretty patterns.

NNs are somewhat bossy with the other chickens so you can keep her (looks like girl to me) with the other breeds.

can t wait to see them .
have big plans for them witch they know that .they will be a super start in my Marneck project .only working with a boys .the girls will stay pure as my main breeder for the future when i find another line to cross it to .
