Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Hi! Blondie sure *looks* like a splash from here --- very handsome!
Tanichca :

It would be coming from a local feedstore, and it would be a frizzled NN, so a frizzled, naked-necked, black-copper, chicken...

I will post pics, of course. When I get them.

That's awesome! A feedstore with frizzled Naked Necks? I've got to get out of the house more.
Good luck!

Yep! And i'll be getting some other birds too, i need more layers. Quick question, how is the temperament of NN roosters? I am going to try to get a roo, because my flock is roosterless right now (spider bite killed the last rooster off a few weeks back

My proper NN rooster Mort (i.e. not crossed with anything) is a real sweetie.....never aggressive, never fights. Easily handled, lovely with children, crows a lot.

Currently he is just about alpha male having lost my huge Dark Brahma, but doesn't really do a great job at that. Instead I have little 'mini flocks' with a rooster (or two) who head the 'flocklets'.

I hope that any of you affected by Irene have not had too bad a time and that it will soon be passed over.

PG How is Gor"gon" ? And do you think Mort is all finished with his foot problems ?

The Scots and Irish are know for their poets/authors. Do the Welsh have a bunch also ? I love your use of language..............and your crazy birds......

Silkiesandco, NNs heal very quickly....hopefully she'll be fine.

flower....the Gordon is thriving.....testosterone fuelled and fit as a butcher's dog. Mort still has a swollen foot, but seems to be doing very well and has almost no limp (and certainly no trouble in getting around.)

Wales has more than its' fair share of bards. I personally am of extremely mixed ancestry, but was born in the "Black Country" a highly industrialised area west of Birmingham in the middle of England which had a funny version of old English. I am studying Welsh (a version of which was apparently spoken in much of England in the days of yore) and am attempting to understand the lovely old poems.

Keep yourselves and your chooks safe.

To answer the question about NN Roos, they are generally very even tempered, and learn you are the boss rather easily. Crosses can be more of a toss up, I have a Delaware/NN roo that is a pretty black and white NN, but he is a stinker. At 4 wks he was ready to defend his hatchmates from the Giant that was picking them up. He found himself face down in the litter like anyother roo w/ an attitude. My full NN roos are all sweeties.

Now for my question:

I know I saw one or two others on this thread that are in Texas. I am in Texoma, near the Red River and I am going to sell off the Blue Andalusian and SS in one of my coops and repopulate it w/ NN. I am looking for any color, preferably not red though, as most of my NN now are red; large fowl and no Frizzles. The NN pom-pom was rejected by DH, though he wants to focus on NN otherwise. I know I can get eggs from some of you, but frankly if I can get juveniles or adults reasonably priced I will drive a few hours for them. I finally got the last chickens out of the garage- and I just want to get it cleaned and keep it that way at least over the winter.
Anyway, so if there is some one w/in 4 hours or so from Wichita Falls TX that has NNs for sale please let me know. Otherwise, I think I will wait till spring if I have to do hatching eggs. OKC is 2 hours, Dallas is 2 hours, Austin is 5 hrs. I don't think I can handle riding in the car w/ 12+ birds any longer than 5 hours.

Thanks
