NITROSTREAK I am glad that you are obsessed with your little NN, This just a guess but I think they may all be red or a variety of red called partridge. I should not say that until I check back and see if they were chipmunk colored at birth ?

Kev "Here's my attempt at short n' sweet answer- yes splash breeds true if that's what you were asking. It's the pure form of blue. " I am correct in translating this to mean that if you cross two splash birds the end result will be !00 % splash (true blue)

Another blue related question, if a blue (bt not splash) is mated with a blue wheaton would the results still be 50 % black 25 % blue and 25 % splash ? Thank you

I can't say 100% obviously but I'm fairly certain the 2nd two will look like this one. You can kinda see the same pattern on the wings (I don't have any with them opened up.) I don't know what color you call the father, but I have a pic of him. And the mother was just a regular production red type chicken.

You can even see in my avatar pic some of the striping on his back and the patch on his head. Too bad they turn all brown, I think they'd be cuter in yellow.

Thanks, Flower. I keep getting red as a guess, so I suppose that's what I'll be "expecting" for now. Only time will tell~

Catsew, What a pretty girl! Even if it mostly chicken butt

Yes, specifically for the blue/splash/black part.

If you meant blue as in a solid blue crossed to blue wheaten, the chicks will come out looking like solid blacks, blues or splashes but as they grow up they will show some color(either white or red/brown) leaking on saddles/hackles of roosters and on hackles and breasts on hens- much like black sex links, except yours would come in black, blue and splash versions..

I was going to wait until my little pullets head was completely healed (almost there) before putting her in her new temp pen with her buddy Lil' Steve. I knew what she was going to do, but I just couldn't stop myself!! I love to see them happy.

When they hatched out she was twice his size, now they're almost the same size. I'm wondering what the end result will be???
ETA: How do they NOT get sand in their ears??

I think Sweet Pea will turn out buff or orangish, with some black in tail.

Blondie has a high chance of turning out like catsew's chick.

The striping/barring on chick wings often are due to the pencilling gene. But how they ultimately turn out depends on many other genes... with some gene combinations added to pencilling gene, the striping/barring is only temporary and is lost later like on catsew's chick. With different gene combinations, a chick with that detail on wings can go off in a completely different direction.. so yep, hard to tell.. however Blondie is showing solid colored feathers on back, that is why I think it has a high chance of turning out like catsew's chick.

You've got me... I've lurked this thread for a while, and I now plan on getting some turkens within a few weeks. How could you??? You won me over to the dark side!!!
