Naked Neck/Turken Thread

@WallyBirdie What other breed's do you have there that it could be mixed with? I have a hen that has 5 toes on one foot but 4 toes on the other. She is the mother of the bigger NN chick that @Parront has. That chick hatched out with 4 toes on each foot, while the hen's other chick that I kept here has 5 toes on each foot. Your chick that has the feathered leg's could be a throw-back to past breeding history of the parent's.

I have 3 hens with feathered legs. Everyone else has clean legs.
Of those 3:
1 white bantam cochin with 5 toes on each foot- she lays small white eggs (is an excellent broody but she is not currently sitting on eggs.
2 are bantam frizzles (4 toes per foot- I assume they are frizzle cochins but am not 100% sure; they were in a bin of mixed chicks)- they lay small brownish or off-white/creme color eggs.
The baby came from a small light brown egg. All my other hens lay larger or white eggs, and their legs aren't feathered.

Then the mother had to have been a frizzle by the color of the egg that the chick hatched from, and it would depend on what mix was in the mother's past breeding.

@WallyBirdie What clean legged hen's do you have that lay smaller brownish egg's? There could be something in their past breeding history also that could be a throw-back to the feathered leg's in the chick.

I should make a list and double check for egg color/size, but offhand-

Frizzles (small brown)
Bantam Sebright (small brown)
Lavender Orpington (medium egg, but sometimes they end up on the smaller size)
Russian orloff (medium)
Welsummer (medium - large)
Sussex (don't recall which egg color/size)

I get green, white, and dark brown eggs, so all those layers and the older non-laying gals are out.

I'm hoping that the 2 White Rock's that I got from you won't go broody after they start laying egg's.

@DrumstickRanchTex I have NN's that lay green egg's, from breeding a blue egg laying Crested Cream Legbar hen to a Naked Neck Rooster. The result was a bigger sized egg than what the mother laid.
Thank you for the info. I like NN because they tolerate the heat (here in TX) very well and are easy to process if you decide to do that.

Awesome. That’s great info.

Beauty is as beauty does. A beautiful bird that dies in the heat is not as pretty to me as a live NN! My husband said they are so ugly, he won't mind me processing them! (As he feeds them grapes and builds them perches).

I got him!! I didn't get the hen I liked but I'll take the male. He's so big and his comb and wattles are absolutely ginormous!!! He's at most a month older than my big male Zeus, but his comb and wattles are like 4x the size. I'll get a picture tomorrow cause I wannaknow if anyone knows what color he is and maybe a breed that could be in his background (hatchery bird probably from Hoover judging by the store he was picked up in, but I know they'll mix birds occasionally for more.color variation))

Meet my new boy. Need names for him and a possible guess (I'm thinking red and black leakage) to color and what breeds may be in his background since I know hatcheries may mix breeds in to add new colors.

He honestly feels about 10 pounds and he is an early March baby. He's currently in a cage that is 2x2 and you can see how big he looks in there (I'm quarantining since he's new to the flock)
