Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Ok, this has me really perplexed. All along I thought my all of my NN's were hens but tonight I had seen this one mount the other. Do I really have a roo or is it a hen taking over a roo role? Her comb is definitely larger then the other 2 hens

The pictures are not the greatest. I took them in the coop and it was dark out but maybe you can help me figure this one out. The one in question has never crowed but is picking on the others as of late. They are all 6 months old.

at first glance the first pic, I thought it was a roo, looks like a roo, I think it is, by looking at the comb

Wow! Thank you! The poor thing I thought he was a she all this time!!! I will try to get some better pics of him on the weekend during the day. These are my first NN's. Do they mature slowly? This guy has never crowed and has not showed any signs of being a roo until tonight. He is almost 6 1/2 months old.

Where have all of the NN folks gone? Lets get this thing revived.

I have a big blue rooster from Jim's line. A friend of mine bought hatching eggs and I managed to get one
of the offspring. I also have some of that roo's chicks that I raised last summer.

I would not cross a RIR with anything because I have a neighbor who has them and they are "pickers" They are big red production hens with a not so nice personality.
Now you have one opinion.

They do mature quite slowly.

My Mort (lovely black legs....no need to change the colour) has only just started to crow at about 6 months old, but he got it right first time (unlike my Brahmas who took at least 3 months to get it right).

Mort has lovely bluey green tail and saddle feathers, but these have been a long time coming.

Patience is a virtue.

On the other thread where you posted a query about the late maturing of Turkens, I posted that it seems to me that Turkens are not a noisy bunch especially if there are other roosters around .
