Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Omg I'm so jealous!! Your little ones are so beautiful... I'm thinking of trying to go with making a BIG bird, if it turns out pritty too, all the better :-D

6 weeks 2 days Fancy looks more like he mom every day I know she isn't a NN, but her mom is, and I just love how her color is developing Some of the dark skinned ones still hanging on to those white feathers I keep wondering what this ones pattern will turn out to be Really hoping this blue is a girl, but thinking it is a lost cause
That is a nice blue Kass, and she looks like a puller too. I love the buff too.

Very nice birds and nice color variety also! That one is just about the most pencilled NN I've seen. You'd be able to go several routes using her if desired- Campine style pencilling, or Rock style pencilling or even double or single laced. The last b/w boy pictured would be a good match as for developing the pencilling more but also for throwing variants like double lace etc.

I meant the Nerf gun comment for the naughty white chicken who's bullying the other away from the food but hey - might work for the dog, too. I've heard a LOT of people say they train their dogs with water guns or spray bottles.

Too funny. I was thinking that just this morning. Was going to put the gun on the hose and whap them good with water.

Well they were let loose yesterday and MY NN roo is sure the cool in control guy. He kept between the white hen and my Phoebe. He actually rounded up the five and took them to back of the coop and kept them under the tree there, while the other two investigated the yard/coop. Then he stayed with the white hen and brown hen. When the white hen went to the back of the coop to see what was going on there, he kept them separated and "had a talk" with the white one I'll call her Betty. He was hilarious stood there in her face giving her what for. No problems out of her what so ever but the brown hen that she picked on OMGosh she was a terror. I guess she took her aggression with Betty out on my girls. These two are very food aggressive, not sure if it's because of how they were fed by the previous owner or their nature. But they will go on the attack over food. Marty seems to be staying with them more and keeping the peace, for the most part, he is doing a wonderful job. It was a learning experience to watch him take control now I understand what people are referring to when they say a good roo will keep things peaceful. He is awesome. He slept with my girls in the coop while the other two went to their coop. Betty laid her egg in the nest everyone wants to lay in there are six nests and they use the same one and will pile in on each other for the pace, don't get that but okay. The brown hen went to lay in their nest. I am surprised the one that worried me was not the one I needed to worry about.

I'm so about to cry! My barred roo above got bit by my dog and had his crop torn out... I had to put him down, I don't know what to do with the dog it's my husbands favorite dog or he would have had a bullet in his head already! How do you brake a dog of this? This is the third he's killed but the others were him just wanting to play this time he actually tried to kill it and I interupted him... :-(
We got our chickens AFTER our dogs so we knew ahead of time that we would have to deal with separation. Is it possible to put up a fence? We ended up splitting the yard in half - the chickens & ducks are in their run in one half of the yard, the dogs get to roam the other half. Our dogs will kill pretty much anything, which is great for keeping all the critters out of our yard. They get the snakes, skunks, rabbits, etc. At night, we open the gate that separates the 2 yards and allow them to roam the entire area as our watchdogs and to keep any other critters from trying to get into our chicken/duck pens. Our dogs don't try to get in (either by digging, etc.), so we know they are safer with the dogs roaming at night. We just keep them on their side during the day so that we can let the birds do a little free-ranging sometimes and to keep the dog poo to a minimum on that side. If we let the dogs out with the birds, they would all be dead. Maybe someday we can get a good livestock dog but for now, this is what must be done.

Do roosters stop doing you know what when they molt? I know hens stop laying eggs.

psycopeep, they are an assortment of nn, ee, and nn x houdan, and nn x spitzhauben oh and I almost forgot nn x australop (sp) all diff colors for the females, the males are a typical looking (but extremely handsome) white / black / red EE, and a birchen Fm skinned NN, and there may be some bbr araucana but he is low boy on the totem pole, so not to likely and none got any visible traits from him so I doubt he is being successful.

According to kev, yes she is penciled and her color would be silver.

The last one is blue color not chocolate.
