Naked Neck/Turken Thread

This pic doesn't show it, but this is the girl that is starting to show some "mottling"??? if that is what we are seeing in the birds.

Do I have pictures of one of my birds???????? My oh my what a silly question to ask!!!!!!

That would thrill me to no end if he is mensa's boy since I plan on keeping him as second roo. And also make sense that he is her's since he has such a tiny bow tie.
Oh yeah, now I remember him. I think we had a discussion on this a while back. I trully believe that Mensa is where the barring is coming from. I recently hatched out some red barred Naked Necks (all were males) that came from sisters (or 1/2 sisters) of Mensa. The father had no barring in his background. If Mensa is his mother then he has his grandpas mostly white with barring head.

That is funny b/c so far this guy has a barred body and white head!!!! lol

My son adores naked neck chickens. I admit I resisted their allures but was finally won over. We had one, our beloved Gussie, whom he would carry under his arm around the yard. We'd very often admire her full crop. I would laughingly say that Gussie would put rouge on it to enhance he beauty. A few years ago she died. My son was so upset. (He still talks about her.). This year he was ready to pick another naked neck from our local feed and seed. He choose a black one and a buff one (like Gussie). These birds, of course, were sexed. Or so we thought.

Now we have one lusty buff naked neck roo trying to dominate the hen house. Granted, he's big and beautiful, but we have so many Roos, and have been lucky they somehow all get along.

Well this roo was named Susan, but now we call him Sue after the Johnny Cash song.

We're looking for a good home for Sue. He's well formed, healthy, and strong. He doesn't fight. He just crushes our cream legbars and silkies. He's a big guy.

If you know of anyone who can give him a home, please message me.

Thanks.

You have a picture of Shakespear?
I do know that Mensa has barring in her background, her dad was a barred. Not really sure on what her mother was, I had red, buff, black, birchen ( this hen was 1/2 Iowa Blue), and black with some red on them in the mix that she cam from.

Perfect answer for barring. Barred roo automatically means there will be barred daughters. Mensa was mostly white, right? Kinda forgot which one is which, sorry.

If she was mostly white with black mainly on tail, often that can obscure barring.. especially if barring is of the cuckoo type rather than strong crisp barring like on show stock BR. The only sign of barring can be a very vague lightened area on the tail or a slight widening of the white running up on each sides of the quill.

Barring on buffs can be almost invisible also.. sometimes the only obvious thing is they're a shade lighter than their non-barred buff relatives.

Kev, I'm not sure if that is "mottled" or not, sure looks like it may be, I have a girl that is doing the same thing. Jaxom had to have had some mottled in is background, that is the only explaination if it is mottled. Now to solve the barring question, have no clue where Shakepear's barring came from.

I suspect it is mottling. Mottled carriers are not supposed to have any white on back area, so..

It also would make her the very first mottle I've ever had. Can't believe all those years and well into thousand range of chickens and I never had a mottled....

Mensa along with one of mine (Kassaundra kindly named Sensa) are kinda of a olumbian color, but almost Salmon (does this make since?).

Ed is just the coolest Roo, he makes this head move when I talk to him it's so funny, I am very thankful he is so laid back because at his size he could put a hurtin on just about anything we have here except my geese. even me. LOL and he has a following now, 2 of the BA's are following him around. I think he's happy.
