Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Oh! Someone was waiting for large frizzle single comb Naked Necks --- finally got a pen set up again for those : )

ooh.. I'm going to start drooling now over those!...

(you'll have to let me know when you will have fertile eggs available)

Only half the chicks will have naked necks.
The guy in the pen is a blue frizzle Naked Neck --- he is from a Rock cross. The hens are Jersey Giants and Java x JG crosses.
Another pen has single comb blue and splash Naked Neck girls and a black Java guy (the hens are so tiny compared to the Java guy). The first of their eggs are due to hatch the 11th.
Still waiting for eggs from the frizz pen.

Another phone pic of some of this year's youngsters. Nothing fancy...the only things that matter to me are good health, large meaty carcasses and long productive lives.

lol.. that's ok. Out of the ones I had hatch a week ago only about half of them had naked necks.. the others are pretty big and fluffy (and still cuties even though they have feathered necks).. so it will be interesting to see what they look like when they grow up..

I ordered some naked necks from Welp hatchery last week... should be shipping today so I will get them right when we have our next batch of nasty weather (grr.. it was in the 70's when I ordered them)!

Still need to post pics of my babies.. might have to get off my behind and do that this afternoon...

I only know a few colors too, solids, birchen, and a few others.

I would call her wild type, I probably like it so much b/c it reminds me of my first chicken flock my EE, that I recently lost to preditor attack.

She's partridge aka dark brown- the main telling difference is relatively darkish color with no salmon on breast of wild type hens (aka bbred, red duckwing).

Beautiful pictures and birds everyone! Lisa I am SO waiting to see those LF frizzles!

This is a question for KEV Willow colored legs are a mix of slate over yellow ?

Kinda yes... it's really "layer of pigment present in leg skin combined with yellow skin" for willow and "layer of pigment present in leg skin combined with white skin" for slate but use however helps with memorizing the difference- slate over yellow=willow is not a wrong memorizing route really.

They are fancy by having a wonderful color variety! That pullet in middle has a pretty cool pattern. Looks like you are on way to great meaty birds, many look pretty solid.

Thanks Kev. These are just a few of this years youngsters. They are a bit more than 6 months old, except the Australorps and Those RIR's being kept for an ailing friend. I suspect I will inherit all nine of them. Anyhow..they are just at 5 months.
