Kev, I couldn't find where I read about the pink and blue making turquoise eggs. I have read about 20 books on chickens this year, plus all these threads and magazines. Who knows where I read that, but I did. Anyway, I knew a lot of what you wrote about, but it is always good for newcomers. Thanks for your response. I have a frizzle chick who is laying a tinted egg....pinkish tint. My rooster carries the blue/green egg gene so I guess next spring, I will find out what colors their chicks produce!

Hey y'all I've got a question. I don't know really how to phrase it, so if I ramble I apologize beforehand...
Background: I have a three month old roo that is LAZY with a capital L!
This roo is the head roo of my flock so in being lazy all the others follow him and sit around waiting on me to feed them instead of them going and finding food.
Question: I'm starting to think his laziness is a cover up for being in pain, should I cull? He isn't one that I was gonna keep due to slow feather growth, so it's really no loss if I do, but if I did cull now he isn't really big enough to eat yet. Which was the point in getting the Roos. Should I wait till older and cull or should I cull two birds with one stone?

Why do you think he is in pain?

A roo is never to small to eat, if nothing else, skin and gut and use him for a great soup base.

Mine are not doing much moving around right now with the heat we are having. They are a little more active in the morning and in the evening as the sun starts to go down. If you want to see if he is in pain, pick him up and manipulate his legs and wings, rub around on his body and watch his reactions. I doubt he is in pain, just too hot to do much right now.
