Here's the closest I could get, I can see if I can get my DH to hold him when he gets home, then I mite get a better one of his feet/legs...

Why do you think he is in pain?

A roo is never to small to eat, if nothing else, skin and gut and use him for a great soup base.
Never too small - I agree. Especially if he really was in pain.

I had a heavy footed NN boy once. He had a staph infection. No plug on his foot, but it was swelling slightly. We processed him early because of it, and when we cut off the legs at the hock, puss or some gross stuff came POURING out.

We did not consume him. It was too nasty. He should have been culled much earlier.

Another question: I broke open two eggs this morning for breakfast. They were from two different hens. Both had these small, I don't know what to call them....little things that looked just like tomatoe seeds. (You know, a greyish center with clear gooey stuff around it) They were by the yolk attached to the white "strings"....I use to know what all the parts of the eggs are called....but hey, just too early to think! hahahha. Anyway, does anyone know what these are and why all the sudden, I found these in two different eggs?

They are called meat spots. Little pieces of tissue from the organs of the bird who laid it.

I've heard it is more common in older birds.

I'm new to the chicken world and this is my first post. I hope I'm doing it right:) I'm a teacher and the first graders hatched chickens at the school I teach at. We're not sure where the eggs came from but most turned out to be turkens, much to the surprise of everyone. They needed a place to take them so we decided to give it a try. I have no idea what kind they are and I'd love to have some input as to whether they are roosters or hens. Can you help? They are about 8 weeks old.

They all look like hens now of course..do you have any chicken raising questions or anything,I could probably help you out

How long does it generally take to be certain whether you have roosters or not? They seem to be happy. They're very content and getting more comfortable getting away from the coop during the day.

The first 2 are definitely cockerels
I'm not sure about the 3rd one
And the black one looks like a pullet
