Naked Neck/Turken Thread

The silver laced looks like a seabright mix. And I wonder if its comb is dubbed ?

MAW, the comb isn't dubbed, it looks that way cus he is a mix of breeds is all...I had a seabright/OEGB/??? roo for a while and his comb was smaller than a full-blooded seabright..I think the wing carriage is a seabright thing as this little roo carried them like that as well....I rehomed him so don't have any adult pics of him..POOP!

Yeah I was pretty surprised at seeing the silver laced ones at first. I'd be extremely curious if they are in so. Calif.

Those seem to be out of a program of NN bred repeatedly back to pure sebright. I assumed the wing set was just typical sebright 'cocky bantam' syndrome. The ones I had sure liked to strut around with wings pointed down like they the biggest baddest guys on the block. But since serama was mentioned... perahaps the first cross was NN serama with a pure sebright..... especially if the other pictures belonged to the same breeder.

That rooster has a rose comb, just a "high set"- a tall bottom part under the flat rose comb part. That sometimes happens after a rose comb is bred with single comb. It does seem very strange in this picture because of the angle. I had some like that from my own crossings.

My silver laced NN were out of initial cross to sebright but after that sebrights were not used again anymore. My girls have both rose and straight combs, yep the rose combs were a little funky on most of them.. was going to breed rose out. And two lay bluish/green eggs- threw that in just for fun.

Hey I answered before seeing your post.... would you know of a laced bantam roo with no OEGB in it? Occasionally I think of getting a compatible roo for my silver laced NN girls... would rather not use pure sebright anymore.

HECK Kev, your answer is much better than my answer! :yesss:

Round where I live the local boys just LOVE to experiment with crossing breeds to make KIKIRIKIS and the little fellow I got was one of those crosses. Yes his personality was: HEY YOU'ALL I AM THE BADDEST BOY YOU EVER DID SEE" ..yet he loved to be held and petted too.

Heres some fun stuff for ya Kev: My mad scientist experiment: white bird is a NN/serama cross MAMA&PAPA are in the last pic. PAPA is a pure poor quality serama but has personality +.

MAMA is in the second pic, she is a red NN roo / white OEGB cross! This girl also has personality +
some crazy genetics there huh?!

The mix of these two was a good mix...GIZMO the white boy turned out to be a super bird with the best of both breeds! Got another one cooking as we speak, lets hope it hatches! :fl

I'd really like to find some SQ Bantam Turkens. I'm looking for solid colors. I know eggs can be purchased from Stromberg's of red and white. Anyone ever done that? Ideally, I'd like to find black ones. The history of the Turken bantam has intrigued me enough that I'd like to start breeding for the standard of perfection and get more color varieties accepted. I think solid colors are the way to go. Blacks, blues, and buffs are what I'm interested in finding. Pretty much all you can find on e-bay are showgirl eggs. I ordered chicks from Dunlap in the spring but only 4 out of the 10 madeit. (I accidentally killed one of them.) However, only 3 of them had single combs. Luckily, those were 3 of the 4 that made it. Is there a breeders club somewhere? I googled it but there's are clubs for people with naked necks...!!!????????!!!! I think it has to do with tracheotomies....

I usta live in Marion County WV. Pretty state but lousy politics. Anyway about bantam NN ...........it seems that it is difficult to find people involved in raising standard NN fowl let alone people who are interested in raising the standards of perfection for bantam NN. Also I have asuggestion for you in your search for interest groups. Try using another term for NN chickens. They are also called turkens and it is easier to find information if your use that term. You will find information on the history of and development of the breed using the term Turkens.
