I was just on Strombergs. The red and white bantam turkens were still there but shipping for adults will be very expensive. I did get a mostly black pullet from dunlap. She might lose the white flecks when she matures. I thought about ordering white turken eggs from Strombergs but I hate the thought of the price if something would go wrong with the incubation. I guess I'll just have to suck it up. I'd really like to work on blue bantam turkens. I think a good place to start would be blue Plymouth rocks and black australorp bantams, but I have trouble finding them as well. Blue OEG bantams are readily available, but I don't want to breed in attitude... I would make them smaller though. Thoughts?
Lots of OEGB have white in earlobes- extremely difficult to breed out after a cross. One of the problems with getting this out is sometimes it does not show up until the bird is one year of age. I know this from experience.... Also they have the issue of their tails shortening as they get older.
Barred rocks can work, would just need to breed with an non barred bird like your black pullet and the barring can be ditched in the second generation. Or first, using a black roo over a barred hen. Is your black pullet a birchen or are the white flecks on the wings?
Hatcheries like Stromberg's, most of them don't even keep the breeding stock and just source it from individuals. Have you checked out Duane Urch- Vamvakas mentions Stromberg's sources eggs from him anyways. He also ships chicks and maybe started birds too... expensive but you get to bypass egg and incubation troubles.
