how many NN's can you fit in a 6x6x6 coop. they would be free ranging during the day with access to the coop during the day and only locked up at night. so i was just wondering if you could fit at least 10? also does it matter how much space that they have if they are going to be in there to roost at night?

You are in a hot climate that is much more tricky to overcrowd the coop even if it is just "overnights" especially when the nights are soooooo hot and humid. Is you coop solid sided or open wire?

no at night it is cool and has 0 humidity only in the day time does it get hot and humid. but no i do not have the coop yet. just looking around for one i found a shed that i am thinking of getting that is solid sided (covered on all sides no holes). but i have not chosen one 100% yet. the one that i am looking at though is this one.

If I were going to go on the more crowded side of the numbers I would make sure there was plenty of air circulation. Chickens are little portable heaters, they really need the night time to cool down in a hot climate and they can't do that if they are to crowded. Your nights are cool in the summer???? I tend to push to the crowded side, but mine just sleep in the coop and my coop is open on 3 sides in the summer. (open w/ wire walls) and a fan or two

I imagine it is a challenge for most of us to answer as where you live is way different from where most of us are...?

What do the birds need protecting from at night? If it's dogs, then this shelter pictured would not be good at all.. they would just rip through. Perhaps if something solid or welded wire or chain link(but then I wonder about how long that would last in humidity...) is laid down around the bottom part to stop anything that tries to rip or pull back the fabric.

Skimming the wikipedia page on your location says it never gets below 64F? I am wondering why you want solid sides? Just curious as the climate is so different.

I'm in southern Calif.. typical winter lows are in mid/high 30F at nights with the average maybe being 40's. Summers are extremely long and hot- 100- 120F. Most of the pens only have solid surfaces on the tops and some of the pens have solid sides coming down 3-4 feet from the roof line with the bottom being completely wire. The roosts are placed above the solid sides so they are out of the night time wind but also to be high enough so if a skunk gets in, they are still safe. btw laying down chicken wire on the ground all around has completely stopped the skunks from getting in.
