Naked Neck/Turken Thread

What a handsome dude! Looks like one of my guys, just floofier. Looks like he may have some Light Sussex or other columbian in him. Here's to hoping everyone gets along!

We've been NN chickening since June. as far as I can pick up from BYC NN Forum and - http://www.mypetchicken.com/chicken-breeds/Naked-Neck-Turken B107.aspx - http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html
there are Just 4 recognized Colors : on post # 8551 the winner is Posing with a White NN. The other recognized varieties: Black, Buff, Red - by American Poultry Assn - in the American Standard of Perfection
any other combination not, is a Mix.

Our Cockerel and Momma Hen with 2 chicks have a docile and even temperament. Nether are Pure, all 4 are a Mix.

Hey Shay baby yep I went this morning and got him it was so easy I am thinking miracle, I did use my Brahma hen as bait and it worked. so he is now down using my storage shed as temp home with fencing around so he can be outside, So I know I made a boo boo in using my hen to catch him but hopefully it will all be okay, my game rooster flew over the fence and is now down there visiting him through the fencing so quarantine is now blown anyway, but I will still keep him away from every one. Well here's pics.

So glad you got him and I hope everything works out!! He is a very nice looking boy!

Color wise or type wise?    Color wise, any blue or splash roo.  Type wise...  if there's no Nava roo, then a large fluffy breed like good quality orp, rock, maybe wyandotte(try to get fluffy but "straight backed" as possible).  If you want her type and color with no Nava roo available- then a black orp from good stock is best bet but would only get blues, no splash in the first generation.

Using good exhibition stock helps a lot in crosses- quick to get pleasing body symmetry that way...

Thanks so much! Yeah both color and type..I just love her size and build and her colors/marks are beautiful. Bad thing is the only roo I have that's blue is a small bcm x silkie roo. Not ant traits there that I would care to give her offspring. Guess I need to look into finding me a nice blue roo! Goodness can't believe I just said that! ! Lol Thought about using my BCM but...hmmm ..something to ponder!

Thanks now explain to me why he is a mix? coloring etc? not that I care just interested.

It's the bowtie that I noticed. "Pure" NNs (or those that have 2 copies of the NN gene) have no bowtie or just a few feathers.
(I'm not sure how pure these two are and you can't hardy tell by this crappy pic but they do have very small bowties)

NNs mixed with other breeds will have one copy of the NN gene and result usually in bigger bowties (fluffier necks), like your pretty boy.
