Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Aww, man!

Here are the chicks that survived in addition to the 4 hens I already posted.

Audra, I am thinking is a girl, she has the horned comb, and the oddest genetic puzzle for you Kev, she is getting feathers on her leg!!!!!!!! I have never had any chicken w/ feathered legs at all ever!!!!!

Barred boy, if I end up keeping him he will be Shakespear. He is my number 2 pick right now. He does not carry Sc, but he would be a back up roo (thinking I will keep 2 boys) In a perfect world both kept boys would carry Sc, and that may still be possible depending on what hatches from the eggs incubating right now.

Main man. He doesn't have Jaxom's exotic good looks, more classic good looks. I think he will color up similar to Jax, only w/o the dark skin and awesomely funky comb. He does carry Sc and is staying no matter what.

Number 3 (boy) he I think is going to have a cool look to the color/patterning of his feathers, but he has the biggest bow tie and does not carry the Sc gene. It is not likely I will keep him.

Oreo's boys, they look almost identical, and think will end up looking very much like him, neither one will be staying. I am determined to streamline to NN.

Oreo's girl, she also won't be staying, but if she continues to be a girl she will go live w/ my FIL's flock.

White bottom girl, big bow tie and she will stay for now since I don't have a lot of bare necks to chose from and my new main roo(let) is bare necked I may have to keep a few large bow tied girls until I have more to chose from.

What I was having a hard time visualizing was your dog carrying the chickens out of the fenced area into the house how many times. seems you'd have seen so kind of evidence of how the dog did this. Makes me wonder if some one else may have been involved.
I should have went back and read what you posted, that's so awful someone would do this. So very sorry. The ones left are adorable I wish you the best as you start over.

Wow! The babies that made it are all gorgeous!! Thank goodness they survived! (And yay, "little Cyrano" made it! Hehe.) Look forward to see what comes off the eggs that made it. :hugs

Oh my the Naked Necks are laying up a storm. The White Leghorn in their blood = awesome/amazing/fantastic! Eggs are GINORMOUS! Blue! :D So loving them. She started laying a little over a week ago, and her eggs are as large as a mature ISA brown!

i dont get it how are the eggs blue...or is her name blue?

Here is an additional response to the blue egg question. Besides being good dual purpose chickens with calm personalities, having much less feathers and hence faster to process for meat, NN are fun to use for cross breeding. Many posters here on this thread like to combine different breeds in order to add different traits to our NN birds. Some like to use a crested bird with dark skin and a lot of us like to breed in different colored eggs. So we cross breed. If you have the time the middle of this thread has valuable information on genetics. But it does take a lot of time to read and learn the subject.

Aoxa They are gorgeous. Nava is wanting to have a buff strain. Plus she is entering hers in competition and has yet to post about the results.

I hope that your winter is trauma free since last year was so awful. How is the weather up there so far ?
