Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Took pictures, unfortunately only a few were worthy of posting.. seems I need a new camera.

The dominant roo, he started out easily the biggest of all chicks and juveniles... but now he's the smallest roo, ha.. Still is the dominant(and not shy about reminding all other roosters....).

Almost all white pullet. The rest are mainly black so she stands out pretty well. Bit over exposed but her white is a beautiful clean white.

Part of the group.. that roo has a funky neck- half red, half black.

His comb.. apologies for the poor quality... the only reasonably decent head on shot. Very funky comb, can't see it too well, the center is darkish yet the spikes around are reddish. Strange. Also check out his neck! Red front, black rear.

Kass- tell me if she's mottled or not.. ;) The white came out very fast on her, all that white came out in just a couple weeks. She grew up with no white at all.

The coloring was more in line with a Plymouth barred rock. It had a black/white bow tie, so I assumed that a barred rock was in the mix. The black had a green sheen like an astralorp, I know it is hard to picture, but a very cool looking bird. Regardless, I am sure that there will be many more NN in my coop this spring. then the mix is on (1 black Americana roo & 1 black EE roo). I like to keep a variety of birds, colors, breeds so that I have a visually interesting flock as well as a variety of egg colors.

Barred is a good gene to have for a colorful, varied flock.. especially if you like crele or crele-like birds. Crossing barred or cuckoo birds to colored birds like RIR, orpingtons or welsumers likely will produce some birds similar to what you describe- they start out black/white but eventually some will turn into barred birds with some areas being black-white barred, some areas buff-white barred.

For egg color fun, breed the Amer roo with welsumer or marans hens...

its in the works. we have some marans lined up for spring. The crele coloring is what I am aiming for with the NNs.

Kev,that rooster with the 'finger' comb, two coloured neck and black and white mullet is a bit of a star......what EVER were his parents? The kind of bird I love.

Flower......You are right.....a bit soft in the cerebrum, but well intentioned, I put coats on chickens and sweaters on fleece-deficient lambs in the spring.

Miss Lydia.....a Xmas sock would make a great hen coat!

My flock is dwindling due mainly to old age loss....I have a Warren (brown hybrid ISA Brown type who will soon be 8)....so next spring I will need to breed some more....I'll watch the site keenly for inspiration.

I'll let Auntie Kassaundra regale you with his pedigree. (they came from her)

For his fan(s?), here's other views:

His dad is a no brainer Jaxom

Mom is a bit of a guess, but based on top knot would say either Jackie O, or one of the hoodas (thing 1 or 2)
