Trying to pick out a new breed for my self so I've got a ton of questions.
1) do they go broody?

2) can I get a good carcass by 5/6 months of age?

3) what's the laying ability like?

4) cold hardy?

5) good feed conversion ratio?

That's all I got for now. Thanks.

Chicken Nuggets Anyone!

Baby Pictures:

13 of 14 Naked Necks.

The 14th Naked neck (front right hand corner between the yellowish colored chicks.
The other 8 are Naked Neck father out OEG Bantam cross Large Fowl hens.

1) do they go broody? Depends on the hen but they do go broody.
2) can I get a good carcass by 5/6 months of age? Depends on line but in most case yes.
3) what's the laying ability like? Pretty good.
4) cold hardy? Yes
5) good feed conversion ratio? I guess

I will add # 6....at least in my case, they are 'extreme foragers'... If they can get to a patch of dirt or grass and it's not blowing at gail force, the cold weather does not bother them. On the other hand (except for some cocks)...they can deal with confinement very well.

I'm leaving that up to them but it seems Ed and my 4 girls are hanging out together and mating, he also likes my EE's. lol My one frizzle hen who is a tiny bantam is terrified of Ed and runs away screaming if he even looks her way. Poor thing has never seen anything so tall and big in her life. My other 2 roos are bantam. lol
For a short period I had a beautiful blue laced red NN rooster who was gentle but young and randy. One day a gate was left open and my tiny serama/NN hen wandered into the rooster's pen and that BIG BOY jump on that little hen like no tomorrow and no drama and no harm done. Too bad that I did not incubate the eggs !

Took a few pics of my boys today
Excuse the coop on this one. It's been too cold to get out and spray the walls down.
Frizzle green egger hatched from Dipsy's eggs! Hope to have many babies from him this Spring!

This one is like a big puppy. He's very curious and is always at my feet.

I had this one pegged for a pullet for quite sometime. VERY late bloomer.

That makes me feel much better I have really been worrying he would seriously hurt her. Be so cool to have a NN frizzle in the flock.
