Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Ahoy,
An old time "cure" was a touch of pine tar on the spot. I've never tried it and I don't know what it will do to the hen's head, but I would be interested if anyone else has heard of this or tried it.

No disrespect, but I think the poor chicken has enough problems...I know, my grand used pine tar for bunches of things but never daubbed any on a chicken..not that I'm aware of.

I've been told some things that seemed questionable before. Like using used motor oil on legs to treat scaly leg mites. Wasn't so sure about that one.
I'm confident it would kill mites but at what damage to the bird? There are just too many safe ways to kill mites that dousing the poor birds with petroleum products that have all the carbon and other by-products of being used in the first place, seems to be a bit over the top...to me!

I suspect petroleum jelly would kill mites too but without all the carcinogens.
