Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Today the little stinky doos (chicks) are out for their first full day. I will bring them in at night, but start hardening them off to the day. (they don't actually stink I just call them all that)

I was out w/ them most of the past few hours trying to help adjust them, anyway I think of the 14 chicks I MAY if I'm lucky have 4 girls!!!!

Cockerel or Pullet? 4 weeks old
I keep going back and forth...I wouldn't mind a cockerel, which is probably why I keep going back to pullet...

My kids and myself agree to it looking more like a cockerel. You forgot to show us the cute pics of the turkens moon. I can't help it, there is just something about being mooned by a turken. Nothing cuter in the world then that.

Jump right in! plan on having LOTS of fun and spending LOTS more money but do not, repeat...do not expect to make ANY money.

There are a couple of gals on this thread who breed fantastic looking NNs and I would love to have many of them and fully intend to at some point but as well entrenched as these folks are, I doubt they are making enough to pay for feed bills.

I'll mention you too Kev...I know you live in SoCal were folks will buy anything and pay far too much for it but I doubt you pay your limo driver with NN money...

Heck..I make myself laugh.

What makes you think I don't pay my chauffeur with NN money? It's like saying I don't believe you pay for moonshine with your NN money. Like, so rude, right? Hang ten, dude-bro. ;)

I might stop by that feed store later and see how well the NN chicks have sold.. or not.

That's a boy. The area of dark red coming on central wing and shoulders are classic darker pyle zone areas on roosters.

Welcome, newbies! Hildar, your hen strongly reminds me of my one barred hen. She's very big and getting old, trying to set eggs from her and her sister this year.

Sadly, I have no pictures of his bum...I have pictures of other bums, everyone ran away from me trying to get photos today, but him

Thank you everyone for your responses!!! We have a Cream Legbar cockerel right now, I'm not sure I 'want' another cockerel but since I've read that NN roosters tend to be calm and quiet, I'm not kicking him out...yet...

What are the odds that the feathers on his neck might not come back when he feathers out? One of our hens from last year had just a little bit of fluff on her neck, I think it ended up looking like 2 feathers, and when she feathered out, the 2 spots didn't feather out...if that makes sense. In other words, she ended up with a clean neck.

I really like a clean neck NN...I've learned quickly that I'm probably not going to get that from hatchery stock and once I get all of our extras sold I'm hoping to buy a few eggs to hatch.
