I have a lady that wants 2 of the chicks I hatched out of 15 but she wants 2 hens is there any way to tell decide waiting until there older
Some of you wrote of hatching difficulties... so here I am writing of my own.
There are eggs under 4 hens collected from two unrelated groups. They were due Thurs.
But surprisingly, several of the eggs are pipped and one chick is even out already?!
Unfortunately, so far of all the pipped eggs, about 5? are all at the wrong end....... One chick was already dead, opened that one up further and the yolk sac was still mostly out.
Accidentally dropped one unpipped egg on another egg and the eggshell had massive breaks so I thought, goner for sure but fortunately it had already internally pipped and totally absorbed the yolk. That was over a hour ago and as of now chick is mostly dry and trying to stand... hopefully that is good news.
Still a bit concerned as this is way, way early and abnormally high number of wrong end pips.. normally I never see any....
I am not expecting great hatches from them this time.
AND there was a dead 8 week old ranger chick in the same pen where the crow got in and ripped up the little chicks a little bit ago. The head is all messed up and the flesh was ripped from the neck and around the shoulders and through the ribs. Found a weak spot in the shade cloth where the ties had become brittle and broke, it is not obvious as they stay level as is but with weight on top of it it does show a fair sized gap. I am wondering if it's the same crow...? It was a ranger chick, fairly hefty thing though... do crows manage to kill older heavy-ish chicks?
