Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I

I sold this hen from my Aloha Naked Neck program to a local AZ chicken person. He took her to show at the AZ State Fair poultry show and she won! So proud of this girl! :)

Congrats, but I am confused???? I am not a show person so may not be thinking right, but I thought the color had to be a recognized SOP color to show?

It can be shown AOV- Any Other Variety. Can win that but can't take show winner.

The. Again at so e county fairs there aren't any actual poultry judges (APA) and a local person will do the judging so may award something or other. I've heard too that some have a backyard chicken contest and they will win something.

dominant white x BCM= all cream chicks, some might have random little black spots and feather out white. Many will eventually show buff color on the necks(well, not on a NN lol), and the roosters will have the red on the same areas as on the BCM- on the saddle and wing bow.

If she is not pure for dominant white, then half of the above and half BCM. Might have some surprises, like barred, blue, or birchen pattern(same as BCM but replace the red with white) and possible in the later generations different patterns will show up such as either whites or reds with black tails, reds with white tails, birchens or whites with even more color, etc.

It's because dominant white really only works on black pigments and has little effect on the red/gold pigments so to make a solid white using dominant white, they have to first create a solid black chicken and they like to throw in other things like barring, blue, mottle etc to make the white color a cleaner crisper white and also the barring/mottle helps make the legs a solid color(by the way you will start to see white legs, possibly right in the first cross but for sure the later generations along yellow, possibly blue and green).

thank you. I cannot wait the next season. at the moment I have only 1 cream chicken and no blue.

Get ready for a picture overload.
I'm starting to take picture regularly to evaluate my babies. Mostly the cockerels because tight now I'm keeping any pullets regardless if they are making my grading system. That will gradually come into being, I have to get enough on the ground to produce my numbers that I want for now.

Anyway here is cockerel #1:
400

Color: Blue
Dad: Blue Jersey Giant
Mom: undetermined: there were 4 in with him
all were different colors.

Number #2
400

Color: Crele (maybe)
Dad: Silver Barred (Black Sexlink)
Mom: Welsummer

Been eyeballing this Crele one, mostly because this us all left of the Welsummer line, and I'm not liking any ( color wise) of the other cockerels by the Dolver Barred rooster. That is my male line left from my Salmon boy.

Continuing:

Number 3:
400

Color: Some kind of Wheaten maybe red/
Gold ( somewhere between).
Dad: Silver Barred Naked Neck
Mom: Black Crossbred (1/2 Black Jersey
Giant 1/4 Each EE, Production Red).

Number 4:
400

Color: Golden Birchen
Dad: Silver Barred Naked Neck
Mom: Black Crossbred (1/2 Black Jersey
Giant 1/4 Each EE, Production Red).

Number 5:
400

Color: Golden Birchen
Dad: Silver Barred Naked Neck
Mom: Black Crossbred (1/2 Black Jersey
Giant 1/4 Each EE, Production Red).
*This one I'm calling cockerel. It has some indicators of being a pullet though. mostly the gold on the bib. I've never seen that much color on a cockerel. So tell me what you think.

I miss my Bantam NN hens! They were so sweet, and 2 of the 3 we had made really good mommas! The 3rd didn't get the chance to become a momma, I am hoping that maybe I can get some again in the future! Maybe not Bantam though, those little girls could squeeze through anything and it was hard keeping them out of the veggie garden and out of the front yard, even harder to keep their dang kids out of my flower beds too! But so dang cute, I could do nothing but forgive them everytime! :D
