Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I got excited for you ha ha.. Seriously congratulations but consider mating that lovely Polish with the NN because crested NNs are swell. Very special
Thanks! Actually, I have silkies. This is my rooster that I plan on crossing with my NNs when they're ready.

Well at 1 week and 1 day old I finally gay a picture of the newest NN chicks.

400

I'm not sure if you can see all 9 or not but that's what thee is.

3 blue, 1 black, and 5 chipmunks ones.

The blue I know which is the mama only one hen in there that is blue she also has red on her ( a blue red). The blacks could be hers but I also have a solid black hen in there so could be either one. One if the chipmunks ones is possibly from my white hen, it has a reddish cast to it. The other four are most like from the two hens that are EE/NN crises that didn't get the naked necks.

Out if the 32 hatched I've list 3 so not too bad considering we got about 6 inches of snow and down in the 20's at night just three days after hatch.

Edited to add: Sorry about the reddish cast to the pictures. I had to take them inside the brooder room with the heat lamps glowing. It's still cold outside.

Oh dear I certainly know the difference between Polish and Silkies as I have a few of each breed. I think I was half asleep when I posted

I have another 11 in the incubator now. I couldn't resist. I had a pullet that start red laying good about 2 weeks ago so I saved up some if her eggs, she's in with my Spangled Aloha rooster. Got 7 of those. I beluve these may be some Sexlinked ones, I caught one of the Narred pullets in the nest.

I had another 11 eggs from the other run but I've had to pull 5 non-fertile eggs.

Seems like the chick season started at your place. I envy you. I won't set a batch for maybe one or two months. Especially because my chickens don't even lay.

Yes if you have pets and tolerance for noise and poop, I suppose that you could keep chickens inside. My house is small and totally carpeted and I am too old and grumpy for any animal inside even cats. rrrrrrrrruh I ain't gonna scoop no poop inside my house ! IT IS DIFFICULT ENOUGH TO CLEAN THE COOP !

I have tiles floor but still it is difficult to clean it. there is also too much dust from the bedding. but what can I do?

btw, I have an injured hen. dog attacked her and she has no skin on her back. so there has been blue spray on top of everything else. I still don't know if she will survive. looks better but her crop didn't empty. that dog grabbed her around the vent area I hope there is no internal injury. if she gets well

she will stay inside for at least a month.

as for the coop, I find that pine tree leaves are the best idea. I use deep litter system. that way I also get fertilizer for my garden.
