The two together do look like a boy/girl pair by the size difference.. but maybe it's variation as many broiler stock will throw very varying weights if crossed with non-broilers.
However the dark feathers coming on the bigger one's breasts do seem to be early rooster colors coming in... I'm guessing they may be wheaten or like Apoc.
Back to the subject of this pullet and her parentage.
I do mostly multiple hens with my roosters, and can't always be 100% sure if the mothers. There is usually different colors on the mating and I try to identify the mothers according to the colors hatched trying to keep in mind sometimes daddy throws in things.
Anyway while feeding this afternoon I got to thinking after spying this hen:'
This hen is a product of crossing my Salmon NN rooster ( now deceased) with a buff colored hen ( a little on the small side, much like a hatchery Buff Orpington). I've ran into thus type if color before whole breeding buff color to another color. She dies have the blue kegs also, this comes from the Salmon NN rooster.
I call it Salmon Buff without knowing what else to call it.
I had her in the run with this rooster:
I've came to the conclusion that I mixed an egg up when I was setting it or when I was putting them in the cartons ( hatching cartons the strawberry containers) for hatching.
Do you think that it is possible that she came from this mating?
I'm mostly just curious because I'm trying to figure out the hens/pullets and put them into groups by the hen line, so that I can breed them that way and keep a bit better track of what is from what.
I would love to be able to do more individual breeding a to keep it straight but alas I'm so like most of the project folks, I just don't have enough room.
Yes that is very possible... I really think it could only be either mistake in marking eggs(happens a lot more often than people realize.. have made this mistake before) or the JG was not pure.
I have the same problem, not being able to single pair most of the birds.. this would be real nice but just not feasible...
And just because I actually managed to get the shot as they all came out to see me in their run, here are most of my boys in the bachelor pad and the girls still pining away for them from outside the pen.
When did you separate them? (I'm thinking if I'm better prepared, housing-wise, to separate the boys form girls earlier as is generally recommended, that I may be able to get more time with the boys being able to live together without too much bloodshed.
I have a confession to make. I just put my name down with a breeder for German New Hampshires, Blue Copper Marans, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, and a couple olive eggers. It was always part of my plan, but I thought I would put it off. Decided to just go ahead and get them now. I will probably cross in with my NNs. More building to do...
I am not really keen on barred chickens but when I saw black and white barred NN I decided if I ever find one I must have it. I think it is their neck that interrupt the boring pattern (boring is my personal opinion, no offense). if there are other colours together with barred I like it. I have a pullet who has patches of buff and patches of black and white barred. her name is bella (beautiful in italian) - just to explain how much I like her.
I completely get this. I also like the red necks on white or black chickens for this reason.. breaks up the monotony.
It looks like I am headed towards maybe black NN with white earlobes. Not intentional but let's see what happens.. maybe they will look less boring or...?
Okay....Just one more photo. This is Dutch @ 17 weeks. His weight is toward the higher end in my flock, and he's got decent breast and thigh musculature, but I admit that it's his feathering that's winning me over. I'm a sucker for all that white...and then he's got some red barring too. I'm hoping to keep this one too.
It would give you some diversity. I also have some Murray McMurray bloodlines mixed into mine. I've never gotten NN from Ideal.
I've had two bad experiences with Ideal so I don't use them and do not recommend them.

I'm thinking this is what happened, I stood looking at said pullet and the hen I've picked out as mommy they have some if the same looking traits. As far as build and such.
