Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I have a problem. Actually I have this problem since I got that 15 chickens in December. My rooster doesn't breed and pecks 4 of girls. He just can't stand them. Other three are a bit older and bigger so he can always catch them but only two girls are actually squatting to him. So I read that that happens often when hens get introduced to rooster and not rooster to hens.

How can I fix it, and can I fix it at all?

I was supposed to get an ameraucana cockerel but the same day I went to pick him up he escaped the cage and stupid geese killed him

he was the last one so the breeder gave me a rumpless araucana instead. I am currently looking for an ameraucana pullet but they usually sell a male and a female together.

I have 29 adults and 12 teenagers. males are: my avatar red sex link, a brahma cross, araucana, buff orpington and 3 bc marans. females are: 7 Nn, 2 brahma, 2 bcm, 1 faverolles, 3 araucanas, 2 white leghorns, 3 red sex link, 1 black sex link, 1 lakenvelder, 1 red wyandotte and the rest are mutts. I am going to pick up a black NN hen and 1 or 2 buff orpington pullets. not to mention 6 muscovie ducks and 1 drake.

Right now I have 80 chickens of various breeds and ages....80.

When my husband bought me my first coop he said it would hold 4 large chickens. I came home with 12 chicks of three different breeds. Now he just sort of shakes his head and runs in the other direction every time I mention the breeds I'm considering adding to my breeding programs.

I honestly thought you had many, many more than this. You always post photos of so many gorgeous birds...I guess I assumed you have something closer to 200+.

Y'all are crazy! Don't count!

Hmmm I just did...I'm going to have to put some in the freezer...dw is going to freak when she gets home from work tomorrow and sees 26 giant eggs in the bator. What?? I ordered capon tools from Poco Pollo and I need more cockerels...
Total count now 47, 19 big eaters and 28 little eaters, think I can cut the current big eaters down to seven, that might help in keeping her from killing me.. IDK...

Through the summer months I usually have anywhere from 30 - 50 including young ones. I usually over winter about 20 - 25, but my goal is to get to 15 for overwintering.

that's what happened to me! if I had more room I probably would end up with more breeds.

my goal was 4-5 hens for eggs and eventually meat. then I found out about different breeds and I cannot imagine to eat my puppy chickens

lock him somewhere for a day or two then introduce him to the girls. animals usually have a 24 hour memory.

I second that. Anytime you reintroduce chickens it throws them off and they have to go through their whole pecking order again. Separate him for awhile then reintroduce him, he will show his dominance over the hens, even a small rooster will over bigger hens.
